indesign not reading any files

hello. i have spoke with my school and Microsoft and can't seem to get ahold of adobe. it won't read any picture file. no files from other Adobe software. i have tried to uninstall it and reinstall it and nothing works. it keep saying " file not supported or missing driver"

Are you trying to open these files with InDesign? You cannot do that.

To add images you must use the file > place comman.

I go to file>insert image/place image to add images and files to it. It was working then one night it not. Out of the blue it stop allowing me to add images to my current projects.
