Indesign not responding when I export file as Postscript

I'm trying to create a postscript file exported from InDesign for a book I'm printing at my print media center at school. Every time I go to export the file as a .ps file, the application stops responding and must be forced to quit. I don't really have much more information that I can give. I've been following all of the steps recommended by the print center and computer help desks at school. They said there is something wrong with the file maybe, but are unsure of what the problem is.

Try File>Export>Adobe PDF (Print) and choose PDF/X-4 as the PDF preset. PostScript hasn't been the way to make PDFs for more than 10 years.
