Hello,

  • Since updating our Macs to Catalina we have had this issue.
  • We are connected to a Windows Server 2019 and using files from network share

Problem:

Since upgrading the Macs to Catalina, when we are trying to Save As: the textbox to enter in File name is not automatically highlighted and we have to manually click the box to change the File name.

Our users work from a template that formats the text into columns that our Newspaper company is formatted to. They import the text into the document, align everything up to suit the columns/edit fonts & sizes, copy the title from the text > hit Save As > Filename box is already highlighted > Paste title into Filename box > Save.

The process now is that after they hit Save As > Filename box is not highlighted > user has to click on the Filename box > Delete the template document name > Paste title in the Filename box > Save

The issue is very inconsistent however, it's hit and miss. It roughly happens 4/10 saves with no pattern at all... Saving 3 documents would be fine and then on the 4th or 5th the box will not be highlighted. I've tested it to see if there were any certain factors that were causing it to happen, but nope its completely random. The same issue is on all 3 of our Macs.

Even though it is a very small bug, it has interrupted the workflow of our production users, they have to process roughly 80 documents a day, and having to constantly click onto the Filenane text box and change it manually has interrupted their system of doing things - processing 80 documents in one sitting there is a 40% chance the dialogue is not auto highlighted and they end up saving over the template or pushing out an untitled document.

TL;DR:

When using Save As to rename the ID template, prior to Catalina the filename box would be auto highlighted, the user could just paste in filename and hit enter. Post update users now have to manually click onto the filename box and then enter it in before saving.
