Hi all,

When I'm working on the InDesign Auto-size panel and try to apply Height only it always crashes. I have attached a screen recording that will explain the problem and also the steps I have followed.

  1. Remove all Typefi plugins from plugin folder.
  2. Open Indesign CC 2019
  3. Open a new document(make sure there are no Typefi plugins in Window bar)
  4. Add new text frame with 2 columns.
  5. Add some texts on it(but don't fill the entire line)
  6. Next create a anchor on next line and add some text(but don't fill the entire line)
  7. Then go to Type->Paragraph styles and open the panel.
  8. Create a duplicate style of Basic Paragraph style.
  9. In Duplicate Paragraph style go to Indents and Spacing  and change Align to Grid to All Lines.
  10. Apply those styles to the texts.
  11. Next go to Object->Text Frame Options-> Auto-Size and change the Auto-sizing to Height only.
  12. Press OK in InDesign CC 2019 it won't crash.
  13. Do the same in Indesign 2020/2021 and then InDesign will crash.

Thank you.

Hi user10962604,

this is also a known bug with the desktop version of InDesign.

Also reported at InDesign UserVoice, but still not fixed:

Anchored textframe with auto-sizing/auto-adjusting "height" causes InDesign 2020 to freeze
Matthias Fritsch, January 09, 2020
https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/39398323-anchored-textf...

I recreated that bug with InDesign 2020 version 15.0.3.425 on my German Windows 10.

Also with InDesign 2021 version 16.2.1.100 on the same machine.

InDesign will crash in the moment I try to apply "align to baseline" in step 7 if the text frame is already anchored:

[1] Create an new document.
[2] Create an new text frame ( text frame A ).
[3] Create a second textframe ( text frame B ).
[4] Insert some text in text frame B.
[5] Set auto-size of text frame B to height only ( pinned top position ).
[6] Anchor text frame B to text frame B's text.

[7] Select the text in the anchored text frame B and apply the option "align to baseline".

Crash.
