Indexing question

I am starting to index a large book, 12 chapters. Do I need to have all the chapters (documents) open while I perform the indexing, or only when I generate the index? I have seen contradictory answers to this, and when I tried an experiment with a short test book, it seems like I really do need to have them all open before generating.

You just need the book panel open.

You can add indexing markers to individual chapters with just the single document open, but you will need them all open when it is time to generate the index.
