Keeping links working in supplied adverts

I am working on a magazine in InDesign that in the end gets saved as pdfs and uploaded to pagesuite to make a digital magazine. I get sent adverts as pdfs to add to the InDesign pages, some of the adverts are sent with links already in them. When I open the original advert pdf the links work, but when I add them to an InDesign page and then save the page out as a pdf the links on the advert no longer work even if I have 'hyperlinks' ticked when I save the pdf. Am I doing something wrong or would I always need to add the links again over the top of the advert in InDesign to make them work. Thanks 🙂

You're not doing anything wrong at all. Those links in the placed files just don't carry over to the new exported PDF. It's just the way that it is. You can draw a new frame over top of the placed advert and apply a hyperlink to that which WILL be retained in the exported PDF. But unfortunately those links from the placed file just don't carry over when re-exported.
