Linking specific rows and cells to layout template elements

Hi

I'm designing a board game, so I need maaaaaany cards. I prefer to design them in InDesign, but balancing stats needs constant correction. Doing it manually takes too much time and I feel exhausted after every such session.

I have a summary table in Excel, but when I drop it in InDesign it results in the whole chart appear on the page. What I need however is to link each cell to a corresponding text element on the card. How do I do that? Is it possible?

I tried to do it with XML but it was 1) complex 2) lacked of flexibility 3) outputs text as paragraph, not as separate parameters.
