Mac vs PC and Fonts

Replacing a font with an updated version in some InDesign files. Doing so on the Mac things are fine, type sayts put. Doing so on the PC some type is shifting down a hair as if InD is reading a different ascent value from the new font, though they should be the same.

Does any one know if the Mac, maybe, uses a differnt font table to determine ascent value ("top" of the font) thatn the PC?

Thank you,

Ken

Hi Ken,

you could compare the exact version numbers of the used fonts.

It would explain your issue if the version numbers are not the same.

Thanks for replying, Uwe. Sorry, should have been more specific. It's the SAME font, the new one we just created.

That's what made me wonder about whether they're using different info tables within the font.

Thanks again.

Since, as you say, this is a font that you, yourself, have created—presumably using a commercially available font creation program—then it does not surprise me that you may be experiencing cross platform issues. The dependibilty of cross platform use would entirely rest on the program being used to make your custom font. I would check out the makers of that program and see if they have any documentation or even user testimonials as to how well the created fonts will perform on different operating systems. The only fonts that can be fully relied on to be completely cross platform are Open Type fonts which were a co-creation of Adobe and Microsoft.

You mean it's the same font file on the Mac and on the PC?

Hm. No idea then what's going wrong.
