I am placing a lot of text into InDesign. The text is in English and here and there there are Hebrew words. The document is about 150 pages long. In my English font I'm missing the Hebrew glyphs. How can I select all the missing glyphs at once and change only them into a different font?

Hello Elisheva,

For cases like this, You can create a two-language font of two different fonts inside Indesign, in Type -> Composite Fonts. Here is an explaination:

https://indesign.tips/2014/01/22/%D7%A2%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%AA-%D7%95%D7%90%D7%A0%D7%92%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%AA-%D7%91%D7%90%D7%95%D7%AA%D7%94-%D7%A4%D7%99%D7%A1%D7%A7%D7%94-%D7%94%D7%99%D7%9C%D7%9B%D7%95-%D7%A9%D7%A0%D7%99/

If the problem is just Nikkud (Hebrew vowelization) glyphs, You can use Rav Nakad software to insert nikud into Indesign quickly and easily: http://nikkud.com/?page_id=576&lang=en

Use a Character style for the Hebrew words, it would also define the different text direction.

If you find a way to select and change them, I suggest you do NOT change the font. Instead, change them to a character style. Set the font once for the style, and you can always change it later. Otherwise, if you need to change the main body font you will break everything again.

Hi,

see into a script by Peter Kahrel that is inspired by an idea of Peter Baumgartner:

Manage missing glyphs (CS4 and later)

https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/missing_glyphs.html

Version history
25 Nov. 2019: Added the possibility to apply a character style to any missing glyphs.
