Hello i'm having some troubles opening an indd and idml file.. i get this error
Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
I have no clue how to fix it if anyone could help??
Thanks

The files could be corrupted or may have been designed in an older version of InDesign. The later is true is if you get a pop up asking whether you would like to convert it. If you proceed with that option, it will create a new copy of the file.

What version of InDesign? What operating system? Did you create this files or receive them from someone else?

The files date from 2013, on macOS, no clue about the version probably CS6 ? I received them from someone else and they can't help me anymore.

Are they on your local harddrive? Can you share them?

Are you absolutely sure that they are actual indd files? I tried to open them with BBEdit (just to see the content) and there is no mention of the word Adobe or InDesign in the file, at the contrary of an indd document.
@BobLevine the files are shown as 2,4 Mb on my computer

Right...but the IDML is almost the same size.

Those files seem to be corrupt. Additionally, just looking at the size of them tells me something is wrong. They're way too small.

Are these files saved by you? If someone else sent them, can you get them again. The files might be corrupted or can be opened in an older version.
Thanks and Regards

Whatever made those backups may have compressed them and would need to be used to uncompress them.
