Hi there
InDesign freezes about once a day but yesterday it was freezing every few minutes. I'm creating/amending small documents, maximum 5MB.
Apple Support thinks it might be because my MacBook Air is 8BG so doesn't have enough memory to use InDesign properly.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks so much
Amanda

Are you able to upgrade your RAM to at least 16GB?

Hi Derek
According to Apple Support no, this isn't a MacBook Air that can be upgraded. I've only had it about four weeks, and when purchased didn't know I'd need to be using InDesign for a client (I'm self employed).
Is it absolutely necessary to have 16GB?
Thanks so much

8GB is enough to run InDesign. Slowly, but in and of itself shouldn't be the root of your issues.
The issue is that you're running on the M1 chip, and Apple's "emulator" has problems running many programs designed for the Intel Mac platform — InDesign being just one of them.
Color me not surprised that Apple support is trying to put it on you that you under-spec'd your system for the job. This is the "you're just holding it wrong" response.
Help is coming — Adobe is working hard to produce new versions of its applications which can run natively on the M1 platform. Photoshop is already released; other applications are undoubtedly coming soon.
Wish I had a better answer for you. But at least I'm offering you a truthful one.

Hi Randy
Thank you, your response is appreciated. I'll just carry on as I have been, yesterday must have just been a bad case of 'freezing'. Hopefully it'll just revert to the once a day freeze until Adobe produces its newest version.
Thanks so much
Amanda
