Object effects: drop shadow not displaying or exporting

My drop shadow effects aren't displaying in a couple of documents, they are all set up 100% correctly as per usual. If I export to pdf they don't display there either.

If I copy and paste text from a document that is working as per expectations, the drop shadow disappears....

Any ideas, I've been using InDesign for over 10 years and can not work it out!

Hi OrbisMedia,

will pasting in the same document work?

If yes, inspect the text frame after pasting in the other document.

Could be, that a object style is applied and after pasting to another document the style there with a different the same name is defined differently; e.g. without a drop shadow.

With the frame that is supposed to be showing the drop shadow selected open the effects panel and make sure that the pull-down menu in the top left of the panel is set to Normal.

For me, the DS wasn't showing up because I was in "Fast Display" mode (must've hit something by a mistake).
