Object Jumps When Dragged

When I shift click on an object or group of objects and drag, if I drag more than a short distance, I end up on another page or on the clipboard. It's getting really frustrating! This never happened before 2021 (or possibly some of the recent upgrades).  None of the answers I've found online address the problem. I'm working in OS Mojave 10.14.6. Do I need to upgrade the OS?

Which preference do I change or do I do a global reset? Whatever I found online didn't exist in my preferences.

Delete InDesign preferences with shortcuts

You can delete the replaceable InDesign SaveData and InDesign Defaults files by holding down the following keys while InDesign is launching:

  • Windows: Shift+Ctrl+Alt
  • Mac OS: Shift+Control+Option+Command

The problem remains. I thought it was fixed.

This didn't work. I cleared everything off and reinstalled programs. I upgraded to Big Sur and still dragging bounces from where I'm going. This has happened in Illustrator, too. The keyboard shortcut for dragging must have another function is the only explanation I can come up with. I needed to finish a project so held off on using the Creative Cloud Cleaner or making the upgrade.
