I wish to place some permissions so that the produced pdf file cannot be opened from within other apps like illustrator in order not to be theft of the vector logos contained within or the copying of text. Is this what the tteched permissions in this section does?
Can someone explain to me what each setting will do?
Yes this allows you to assign a password to limit access to what people can do in your PDF. That being said, when you apply security restrictions, you'll see a dialog box that says "All Adobe applications honor these permissions, but some applications may not". It's a bit like the honor system. If someone really wants to get into your file, they can and will. It will probably deter most users but not all. It's by no means Fort Knox.

You CANNOT stop theft of ANYTHING you put on the web. Don't waste yout time trying.

What exactly does the printing restriction do? I dont see any restriction of printing the pdf in my home printer... does printing mean something else?

Printing means just that, printing. We said it was useless. Many apps ignore the security settings, as you've found. They are breaking the rules of PDF, and don't care.

Acrobat ignores those security settings as far as print is concerned... is that normal?

Acrobat doesn't ignore them. So either they aren't being set, or the printing isn't being handled by Acrobat directly. To check the settings in Acrobat use File > Properties, and click the Security tab.

Yeah you need to implicitly define the print restrictions.
