Generally speaking there should be no need to involve a printer at all in the creation of PDF from InDesign.

Can you please describe the steps you are using to attempt the process?

If sending to a commercial printer ask them if they have a JobOptions file.

Simply follow these steps:
  1. Open Adobe InDesign.
  2. On the "Edit" menu select "Adobe PDF Presets..."
  3. In the resulting window click "Load..."
  4. Navigate to and select the "joboptions" file and click "Load"
  5. Click "Done"
