There is a problem with pasting new text to locally overrided paragraph. Nested Style doesn't work.

Indesign 16.0.1.

I have seen this bug in previous versions (2018 and 1020). Just press alt and click on the style name, as you would remove local overrides even if you don't see the plus sign in the paragraph style panel. It should reapply correctly the style.

But i don't want to remove overrides. I work with children books and make master versions for different languages. For example - i've several separate text frames with the same paragraph style, but in one frame i need first word in Bold. I sure can make another paragraph style just for this one frame, but in previous versions (2018 and 2020) it worked fine without duplicate styles.

Hi solar21,

interesting. Thanks for posting this.

Hm. Instead using a nested style, did you try with a GREP Style applied to the paragraph style?

GREP Pattern could be:

^\w+

Hi. Yes, override with Grep Style works fine, thanks, but first word was just an example. Sometimes i need first few words (different amount in different languages) up to "!" or "-" and this is beyond my grep level.

Hi solar21,

to solve the issue you could invest more time and work in learning GREP.

There are some tools out there that could assist you:

https://creativepro.com/resources/grep/

http://www.jongware.com/idgrephelp.html

https://creativepro.com/files/kahrel/indesign/grep_matters.html

NOTE: GREP Find/Replace is a bit different in comparison to GREP Styles:
A GREP pattern used with a GREP Style can only focus on one single paragraph at the same time.

The second thing you could do:
Report the issue as bug at InDesign UserVoice:

https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs

OK, Nested Greps Positive Lookahead and Positive Lookbehind work fine in my case, but still Nested Style is a bug. 🙂

I've reported this issue at InDesign UserVoice at the same time, but there's no reaction.

Thanks.
