Problems file importing RTF or Word doc in InDesign

New experimental task … take this .docx file or this ..rtf file, place it in an empty InDesign file and report back. Sounds suspiciously easy, and (alas) fails with both files:
docx Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation.

rtf A crash report has been generated.

Let's start with the easy one: are filters something I need to install / activate? if so, what do I need to do?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Can you confirm the version of your softwre and operating system.

Also, make sure the original file is closed when placing it in your document.

PLease include screenshots of any error message you might receive.

Thanks for the quick reply! I thought I had already answered yesterday, but no sign of my posting in the forum this morning …

Windows 7 Enterprise, service pack 1; corporate extended support

 InDesign 2020 – 15.1.3 x64

update: placing an .rtf simply crashes InDesign; placing a .docx takes a couple of minutes, but finally succeeds.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this trouble.  I am hopeful that the issue is fixed by now. If not, please try the steps shared on this page ( https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behavior-of-indesign... ) and share your observations with us.

While performing each step, please make sure that InDesign and other Adobe apps are closed.

Feel free to let us know if you still need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

Regards,
