Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing the version of InDesign? Have you tried restarting the computer once? You may also try creating a new user account on your machine(https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mtusr001/mac) and launching the app there. Let us know how it goes.
You might want to try signing out from your Adobe account through the desktop app and then signing back in again. If that does not help try reinstalling the desktop app. I recently found a huge improvement in my InDesign performance after reinstalling the desktop app.
