I've been trying to import an HTML snippet to build a monthly calendar view in my project but the InDesign HTML renderer times out each time. Even the default placeholder snippet cannot be rendererd.

Here's the error message:

"HTML renderer timed out. Could not generate a poster image."

I simply do Object > Insert HTML...

Here is the placeholder snippet from Adobe:

This is an <b>HTML snippet</b>.

and this is what I'm trying to import:

<html>
    <style>
        table {
            font-family: "Bell MT";
            font-size: 12;
        }
    </style>
    <table>
        <tr>
            <th>Mo</th>
            <th>Di</th>
            <th>Mi</th>
            <th>Do</th>
            <th>Fr</th>
            <th>Sa</th>
            <th>So</th>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <th>28</th>
            <th>29</th>
            <th>30</th>
            <th>1</th>
            <th>2</th>
            <th>3</th>
            <th>4</th>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <th>5</th>
            <th>6</th>
            <th>7</th>
            <th>8</th>
            <th>9</th>
            <th>10</th>
            <th>11</th>
        </tr>
    </table>
</html>

Please note that the placeholder snipper also fails. So even if there's something wrong with my syntax, the render problem has another reason.

And what are you exporting this to? What's the end format you want?

I'm exporting to PDF but I don't think it matters. The error message pops up the moment I import the snippet. I cannot see the image in InDesign as well.

I tried your file.

  •  i saved as an indivisual html file, yes, i see the calendar.
  • Pasted into indesign: exported to interactive .pdf, correct, it does not display.

My thoughts:

That feature was meant for holding iframes, google maps, twiiter, so on. Therefor it would be expected to be exported to html. An acrobat .pdf does not display iframes as interactive, it flattens it to an image (it takes the preview and it flattens it). Which leads me to say you are incorrect, exporting to .pdf does matter, because it does not support html.

Here, look at this file i made, it has your html, and an iframe from google maps. Take a look at the interactive .pdf against html version, In .pdf the preview is flatten into an image, in html it works. I would recommend you go to the acrobat forum, they may have the answer why it behaves this way.

It might be worth having a look at this, the Adobe InDesign Calendar Wizard.
