riesling font restrictions

I got the font "riesling" from my graphic designer with a freeware licensing, but when I was making a pdf it said that there was some type of licensing restrictions, but when I checked online I did not find any. All the licensing I found was for free usage. I never got this when using the font for anything in photoshop, so why does InDesign have a problem with it?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for reaching out. Most likely font embedding privileges set to not allow any embedding of said font. This is a legal issue. Adobe software respects the intent of the fonts' creators and will not embed any fonts into PDF files where the embedding privileges restrict against such embedding.

I suspect that the supposed creator of the font may not have known anything about how to properly set the embedding privileges within the font since the text files claim that the fonts are “freeware.”

Unfortunately, InDesign's PDF export (or any other PDF creation tool) cannot be clairvoyant in terms of knowing what the font creator intended to do. I'd recommend using a different font here. Let us know if you have further questions, we'll be happy to answer.
