When I attempt to layer one shape on top of another, there is a weird overlapping color change that completely erases the purpose of the top shape. I've attached a photo here. The gray rectangle has been arranged to fall back behind the teal shape, and yet, there is a strange color dulling. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

1. Verify the teal shape is on the same layer or a layer above the gray shape.
2. Verify the teal shape does not have a blend mode applied. (With it selected, check the Effects panel; the Blending Mode should be 'Normal'.)

In case it's not the Blending mode, check the Opacity (to the right of the Blending mode) and change it to 100%.
Also, if the settings for "Object" look okay, then look at the settings for "Fill".
