I know I should know this 🙂

I am trying to tab after a number for example:

Ingredients

  1 Apple

  10 Bananas

  1 1/2 Grapes

I want to align after the number.
Ingredients

  1        Apple

  10      Bananas

  1 1/2  Grapes

where the space is a set space of say 0.2 in between number and fruit.

I already have a 0.1 from left side for numbers.
Thank you

If you want the numbers to be right aligned and the ingedients to be left aligned try using 3 tabs—right justified, right justified, left justified. You’ll need to leave enough space between the first two right aligned tabs to allow for the widest number. When it is just an ingedient with no description insert two tabs before the ingredient:

Here I’ve inserted a column break character to split the text into columns:

Do you really want 0.2 (btw, .2 inches, centimeters?) after the number? If yes, the items in the list won't be aligned (1 1/2 takes more space than 1). Your better choice would be to set the tab leader in the paragraph style settings.

The issue is more complex now.

Ingredients:

1 abaaac                     Frying: 1 egg

2 aaa                                  3 xxx
1 aaa                                  4 aaa
Dipping: 5 eft

1 Tbsp aaaaaa           Sauteing: 1 vvaaav
1⁄4 aaa                                  3 1/2 123

So the recipe is into columns
It came out of word and was not in a table but manually created.

It has been a PITA trying to figure out tabs for this use case..

Trying to line it up like this:

Dipping:    5    eft                          Frying:     1    vvaaav

1    Tbsp aaaaaa           Sauteing: 1    vvaaav
               1⁄4    aaa

But taking me long and need to manually move

Any help would be appreciated..

I think I do not understand your issue… Just make a 2 columns text frame and set your tabs like this (of course, with a paragraph style, to be more efficient and to have the possibility to easily change the tab stop) :

You also can make 2 paragraph styles: one for "dipping”, “frying” and so on and another one for the subsequent lines with a left indent which avoids you to put tab characters at the begining of the line:

Or, if you want the method description to be left justified use two tabs, the first right justified and the second left. The first tab stop has to be set far enough to the right to clear the longest description and number text width:
