Have followed instructions carefully on importing mp4 video files to InDesign (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/user-guide.html/indesign/using/movies-sounds.ug.html#change_movie_s...) but for some reason I can't get anywhere - the imported files do not give any settings in the floating Media panel and can't figure out why - any help much appreciated, thanks.

What is your final output?
If it's an Interactive PDF, don't bother, it won't work, try FXL ePub or InDesign's Publish Online instead.

Thansk for swift rteply - client needs an Interactive pdf they can post on their website that includes the video playing within it. Is that a non-starter?
Looking at various online tutorials the Media floating window shows option - but mine is blank, unsure why?

I've run a test using InDesign's Publish Online and appears to work - so many thanks for that advice, I'll try that method.

The reason that video in PDF doesn't work now is because it relies on Flash and that had become obsolete.
The other option you might consider is the in5 InDesign plug-in (at extra cost): https://ajarproductions.com/pages/products/in5/

Ah. Thanks. Will take a look at the plugin.

Indeed, it's a good point. More food for thought!

If it's going on a website, why do you need a PDF? Just create a webpage; you'll never get an interactive PDF with media to work properly in a browser...even with Acrobat it's a crapshoot.
