updating linked table without loosing the design

I placed a linked Excel Table to InDesign.

I used table style, character style and Cell style to save the design of the table every time I update the link.

I created a different style to the table header.

When I update the link all formatting settings are saved except the setting of character style.

How to fix it?

Screenshots might help but all styles must be defined in the cell and table styles. You cannot define a character style and have it stick by itself.

Do you have a cell style with that character style assigned to it?

IMHO, you need to try Woodwing SmartStyles for such tasks. Yep, I know about the price.  It's worth it when you have many tables in work.

The huge benefit to SmartStyles is that it maintains cell insets and sizes. So, yeah…with lots of tables it’s a time saver for sure.

Hi Louise,

Sorry to hear about this issue. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

Few screenshots or a small video of the issue.

OS(Exact version of Windows/MAC) and version of InDesign?

Is it happening with a particular file or multiple files?

Regards,

Srishti

I am having the same issue. When I update a linked Excel table in Indesign I lose the formatting that I had applied on previous tables. Is there a way around this?
