Is there a way to view a list of all the section names in an InDesign document? Or a way to automatically convert sections to a table of contents?

Hi Kelsey:

An InDesign "section" just starts a new numbering system, i.e., page numbers, footnote numbers, so I'm trying to figure out what you mean. I'm guessing you have entered a Section Prefix in front of the page numbers in the Pages panel? If so, no, you can't collect of list of them using InDesign's standard feature set.

Do you, by any chance, have a paragraph style called section? If you have a paragraph style,  you can create a list of them in a table of contents or list of paragraphs.

Hi Kelsey,

The following one-line script will display a comma-separated list of all sections markers (names) in the document:

prompt("This document contains the following sections:", document.sections.everyItem().marker.join(", "));
