I've been using the current version  of InDesign (16.1) with Big Sur (currently 11.2.3) and have had no problems with lagging.

Tell us more about your system: Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using. Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. How much RAM? What kind of hard drive are you using?

You must know that the M1 chip uses it's own architecture called Apple Silicon.

Apple decided to move away from the x86 architecture that most of the Adobe software (and lots of others) operates on.

As such, any non-Apple Silicon apps that are  not native to it's own new architecture - like some Adobe software - are emulated on Apple Silicon using Rosetta 2 (from Apple).

As of now - there is no InDesign available that works on the Apple Silicon chip natively.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I agree with the response given earlier. I'd request trying suggestions given on this community post(https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behavior-of-indesign...) & let us know if it helps to improve the performance of the app.

Regards,

Ashutosh

I'm having lots of trouble with ID 16.1 on Big Sur 11.2.3. It hangs and locks the system up constantly (once per half hour if not more frequently). Sometimes I can get the computer to recover by closing the lid for a moment. The upgrade to OS 11.2.3 caused this problem. Under 11.2.2, 11.2.1, ID worked quite well.

Avoid the 11.2.3 update if at all possible if you use ID 16.1

I'm trying out the Beta of Indesign for the M1 chip. Hopefully it won't crash as much. Indesign 16.1 plus OS 11.2.3 is a poor combination.

Or...rosetta 2 is not quite as good as emulating Intel as they claim.
