When I try to underline a text, that text winds up being highlighted with a yellow background. I have gone into my compostion settings under the Preferences, and all that is checked is Substituted Fonts. I tried unchecking that selection, but the problem still remains. I originally copied and pasted the text from a Word document. However, when I simply delete the text and retype it, the problem still exists. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening?
Hi Radford_Bean:
An underline can be configured to look very different from what most of us think of as an underline. Select the yellow highlighted text and then Alt/Opt click on the Underline button on the Control Panel (or Properties panel). What is the weight and offset value?

Can you show us a screenshot of the yellow background (select a small part of the text with a yellow background with the Type Tool) and the settings in the applied Paragraph and Character Style, please?
One shot into darkness:
Maybe a very thick Underline or Paragraph Rule (above or below) or a Paragraph Shading is active.
