P: Image "blinks" when toggling between "Before Only" and "After Only" views in Develop module

-----
Lightroom / System Info:

Lightroom version: CC 2015.8 [ 1099473 ] (and earlier)
Operating system: Mac OS 10Version: 10.12 [3]
Application architecture: x64
Graphics Processor Info: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M OpenGL Engine

Check OpenGL support: Passed
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Version: 4.1 NVIDIA-10.14.20 355.10.05.15f03
Renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M OpenGL Engine
LanguageVersion: 4.10
-----

In the develop module, when one toggles the image view to "After Only" (after toggling to "Before Only") the image blinks / blips. To replicate:

1. Open an image
2. Go to develop module
3. Press \ key to toggle to "Before Only" view of image
4. Press \ key again to toggle back to "After Only" view of image -- a blip / blink occurs in the transition

Notes:

- Blink / Blip sometimes does not occur until the second toggling of before / after using the backslash key

- Behavior is the same whether using the backslash shortcut key, or selecting appropriate options from the View menu

This bug is significant because it makes it difficult to see the difference between before and after, and the effect of one's edits. It's actually quite a hinderance to editing images with Lightroom.

I cannot replicate problem on a late 2012 MacMini with Intel HD 4000 graphics. Switching is very smooth. MacOS 10.12.3 as on your set up. Graphics processor acceleration is "disabled due to errors" by Lightroom on my set up. Maybe a fix is to disable graphics processors acceleration in lightroom performance preferences (if it is not already disabled)?

Thinking back to when I used Windows, this seems like the perfect situation for updating the graphics driver, but I don't believe graphics drivers can be updated on a Mac except via MacOS updates, which is one of my (few) complaints since switching to Mac, since graphics driver updates seem to be low priority for Apple. The exception to this may be the old Mac Pro towers.

Lightroom CC: When I press "|" to show the before and after of a photo it flickers to black for a second, please fix this it is very hard to compare before and after when black interrupts the transition.

lightroom 6 on iMac late 2012 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX > when I hit \ to see the "before" view and the use of graphics processor is enabled, I get a flicker of the image. When I disable the use of graphics processor the flicker is not there and the transition between before and after is smooth. Annoying as we want to see subtle changes in a smooth way. Thanks for looking into it.

I'm experiencing a similar issue on a 13" 2016 MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB.

Intermittently, when entering crop mode, the photo goes black for a second or two. Not the entire interface, just the photo.

Being that it is intermittent, it may take a tester a number of tries to replicate. I've noticed that when Lightroom's GPU is toggled off, the problem doesn't present itself. It appears only when GPU support is toggled on.

Extremely frustrating as just yesterday I purchased this upgrade to 6.10 because the 5.7 version ran  sluggishly on the new Mac. I bought it for its GPU support. Seems I've gone from bad to worse.

Please let me know if you need additional information.

This appears to have been mostly fixed in 2015.10 with one small exception. There is still a blink / blip if one does like so:

1. Create virtual copy of image
2. Make some adjustment to image
3. In the History sidebar, select the previous state of the image ("Create Virtual Copy")
4. Then, in the History sidebar, select the following state (i.e. the adjustment that you made in step 2)
5. Press the "\" key to see the Before state (no blip / blink)
6. Press the "\" key again to return to the After state; There will be a blip / blink in transitioning back to the After state, but it seems to stop if one makes another adjustment, and then uses "\" to toggle the view again

I just installed Lightroom on a Windows 10 machine, and I am seeing my images get segmented (like it's dividing the image into 3-4 parts and putting a collage on the screen), every time I move a slider.  It goes back when I release the slider, but it makes it very difficult to edit!

System info below, hope a solution exists.

Sorry to update again, but this actually does not seem to be fixed in the new release. It did seem that the behavior largely stopped after updating, but now it seems to be happening again, no differently than before.

As a workaround, try unchecking Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor.

I am afraid this in not fixed on my machine. There is an initial blink but when you toggle the switch again on the same photo, it doesn't happen. However, when I go to another photo and come back, it would happen again, initially. LR CC, Windows 10, Nvidia 1060(GPU on in LR), 32GB Ram, i7 3.4

@Jerry Syder.  I tested on Windows 10 and Mac 10.12.5 just now and it is working correctly here.  Are  you using the latest driver from nVidia's site?

Hey Rikk, yes I've got the most recent drivers from nVidia's site. Check the vid to see the "image blink"(pardon the soft, unsharp quality)

Jerry,

I checked with the developers and there were two separate bugs against this issue. One was fixed but a Windows bug still remains. I will set this thread to In Progress again for those Windows user still experiencing the one-time  Before/After video anomaly.

Hi Rikk,

I'm running Yosemite on Mac Retina (too scared to update to Sierra and maybe not supported with my hardware)  and still have the flicker problem specifically going into the "before" view.  Disabling Graphics processor acceleration fixes it for some reason, but slows down image update in Develop Mod during edits.  Also wondering why when checking "use smart previews for editing" I advance from photo to photo less quickly than when I physically remove the external HD.  Although that's the fastest way I found to advance through the photos, I wish there would be something faster and more responsive.  (hope it's OK to ask about the different problems in this thread on the forum).
