P: Drag and drop GPS tagging not working. Right click on map also not working

I cannot geotag photos in the 'Maps' module of Lightroom 8.2. Drag & Drop does nothing, and right click 'set selected photos GPS coordinates' does nothing. There is no error, no message, no metadata is updated at all.

On initial startup, if I am very quick, I can drag & drop a photo successfully. But ~15 seconds after startup it stops working.

My issue is identical to those posted here. https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom-8-latest-update-win10-drag-and-drop...

v8.2 seemed to solve the problem for many, but it did not help me.

I have provided sample photos and logs to Adobe staff already and communicated with them, but as the original thread is now marked 'solved' I have created a new one.

I have address book enabled. I am on OS Windows 7 Ultimate.

I've been having the same problem for months, through all versions. It seems to work ok for one or two batches of geotagging after startup, then appears to do nothing.

Drag & Drop sometimes does nothing, but usually it assigns the image a map location... just not the correct one.

Then, I'll again drag it to the correct spot, and that will work about half the time.

Right click "set selected...GPS" is similarly hit or miss.

STILL NOT WORKING! 😞

I've worked with the engineers, spent untold hours of my time helping them. It's pretty clear that the 'Address Lookup' feature is the problem! It gets jammed and the GPS features stop working.

'Address Lookup' cannot be disabled! I don't care about this feature, LET US DISABLE IT so we can just tag our photos with GPS.

It's been almost a year Adobe. Completely unacceptable.

Sounds extremely frustrating.  You said, "Address Lookup cannot be disabled". There is a preference that is supposed to disable it: Catalog Settings > Metadata > Look Up City, State And Country Of GPS Coordinates To Provide Address Suggestions. Are you saying that preference doesn't have any effect in your situation?

I should have been more clear. You can disable Address Lookup, but it also disables the GPS setting functions when you do so.

Address lookup is breaking the GPS setting functions because it is buggy and overloaded with requests. But you can't simply disable it and carry on setting GPS coordinates.

I have 31k photos in my Library. But I have reproduced the problem in a library of only 800 photos.

This issue happens anytime Address Lookup gets stuck. I find anytime there is a photo that is over the ocean, or in an obscure area that Address Lookup might not recognize, this happens. So I don't think a large library matters, but it gives better odds of a photo like this existing.

Well my original issue is only on GPS tagging when you drag and drop your pictures on a map to apply a tag. I've not checked the address lookup behavior.
In my configuration when I create a new catalog with 500 photos, I don't have any issue.
Tried to optimize the catalog including using sqllite export and import. My catalog looks clean from this point of view.

PLEASE LIGHTROOM TEAM !! HELP US !!
