Thank you for providing the sample images.   We have internally confirmed the fix with these images.  The fix will be in our next release (not too long from now).  Thanks for your patience and help.

I just wanted to let you know that we are aware of this issue. A bug has been filed and engineering is investigating.

I ran into this problem as well. I'm glad Adobe is working on it - I just hope it is as quickly as they can. There are more and more 3rd party lenses becoming available for the Z line and without RAW support in Lightroom those lenses become far less valuable.

Hello everyone, we believe we have identified and fixed the issue.

To help confirm the fix, however, I would like to obtain some sample NEFs from the contributors in this thread. If you are experiencing the problem where Lightroom / Camera Raw / DNG Converter cannot read some of your Nikon Z 5 NEF files, could you please post a file? You can either post a download link or send me a direct message.

Thanks for you help and patience.

So with this bug, once it is fixed, will we be able to upload into Lightroom and edit?

I have had to convert all my files into TIFF format to be able to upload them and the quality just doesn’t seem nearly as good.... I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with all my paid shoots coming up...

@Rick may I ask, when the bug is fixed, will we be able to upload right into Lightroom just as we would with any other DSLR? Currently I have to convert to tiff and the quality just doesn’t seem as good

For me, no problem with any Z mount glass or newer (G) F mount lenses on the FTZ adapter.  3rd party Sigma and Tamron F lenses are a problem as are manual focus (M mount, etc) adapted lenses.  I understand some older Nikon lenses are also problematic although I haven’t personally tried them.

Just received my new Nikon Z 5 camera and FTZ adapter and did 2 shoots with my Sigma Art lenses.  The NEF files will not open or even preview in Lightroom or Photoshop.  I use Photo Mechanic to cull my images and it works perfectly to view all the files.  How long will I have to wait until the update to programs to fix this problem?

What version of Lightroom Classic have you? The Nikon Z 5 was added to the supported camera roster in LrC 9.4. The corresponding Camera Raw version is 12.4.

They told me the same thing.  Fortunately, I showed them that I use Photo Mechanic to Cull my images and they all load and show up perfectly there.  This issue needs to be fixed ASAP *adobe_creative_cloud_05

@madmanchan  have you been able to use files from consumers to see if the issue is fixed?  spent hours today with adobe reps online and they had no idea this was an issue which is frustrating as I could have not wasted all the time.
