All LR ( v6.x-7.3)backups have errors preventing useage since last year sometime plus 3 photos always syncing

LR Queen's mention of back-up problem had me retest loading back-ups as recently had a problem trying to load a back-up. Back-up of 1/03/18 encountered errors when trying to load it from the zipped copy as did back-up just created (4/4/18) using LR Classic ver 7.3. Also, syncing of photos never completes as there always remains 3 photos to sync even after 24+ hours with LR Classic left running. Photos with down pointing arrow in library mod says metadata file needs to be updated, synced with LR CC. Click on arrow and get box saying metadata was changed in LR, click save data and arrow does not go away. Even a cntrl/S in windows does not get the arrow to clear.

Can we just confirm what the error message was please Ken, and which OS you're using? Someone emailed me last night about a permissions error on Windows, and that was simply because they hadn't extracted the backup catalog to an editable location.

LR's 'back up' is half baked to be very kind. Back up everything important (images, presets, profiles etc) using a product designed to do so and just turn off the so called backup in LR. Back up to multiple destinations.

I use it too, no issues and love it. I also back up every day two an external drive and have two others used in rotation (one in a fire proof safe). As such, I see zero reason why the LR backup of only the catalog, problematic or not is necessary. And it just bugs me when it asks or wants to do so. With CrashPlan and/or Chronosync which I use for the HD's, this all takes place at night when I'm away from the Mac.

Andrew,
I use Crashplan to back it all up to the cloud and two external 6TB drives, 3 copies in total. My catalog is over 1.3GB , 345kb metadata file and I have just under 135,000 photos.
