Lightroom Classic: Very slow rendering in Develop module

hi folks,just installed LR CC. Rendering in develop module is really slow. Eg. when I move between photos, it takes a good 3 seconds for the photo to fully render. Displays "loading" for about 2 seconds and then a further second or two before the image is fully rendered.This isn't happening in the Loupe view.This is with a new set of photos I just imported, and I had "build 1:1 previews" set during import.Is this an issue or have I got a setting wrong somewhere?It wasn't quite this bad on LR 5.ThanksDave

I'm a carbon copy of most other posters here.  Running CC 2015.6, Win 10,  3.6 GHz 8 core i7, SSD, 32Gb, GeForce GTX770 with latest drivers. This is a fast machine that just eats PremierePro  projects and absolutely anything I throw at in in PS.  It has been cracking fast in LR but has slowed down to the point I feel like screaming while churning through 200-400 file projects. The only thing that's elevated is my blood pressure.  If I use ACR it's red hot, weird ...

I've done the usual stuff, clear cache,  trash preferences, toggle GPU, disabled plugins, done proper FULL Win10 shutdown. I'm at my wits end. It wouldn't be that big a deal to uninstall LR and reinstall. Is this known to help? And yes, I'm using a Wacom PTZ-630 tablet.

Mu Lightroom runs faster after upgrading to a 6th Gen core i7, 32Gb RAM, 2 x SSD's, GeForce GTX950. But... 

I have to disable the GPU to get the brushes smooth. After working for an hour or so, I have to restart Lightroom, because it becomes so slow. I've tried everything. Separate SSD's for Cache and LR Catalogs, latest GPU drivers. Freshly installed OS. Newly installed LR 2015.6... To no avail. 

After building HDR-Panoramas in LR, I get the error message, "File Appears to be damaged", even though I can edit and export it perfectly. These are all issues we have to contend with. 

I love everything about Lightroom, except the speed and bugs. Lightroom isn't a mature product for professional photographers, and I can see why a lot of photographers stick to a Bridge and ACR workflow.

Same here, although it seems to be a recent update because it never used to be this slow! I have Win 10 64-bit,  32GB RAM, Quadro K4200 graphics and Intel Xeon, 8 core 3.4Ghz which flies through everything else.

I basically have to restart LR every hour or so otherwise its just unusable. If they can't get this fixed I may hve to give up my CC accounts 😞

Turning off the GPU gives the same terrible performance.  I've tried adjusting many settings that others have suggested to no avail.  If I had to guess it sure seems like the preview cache simply isn't doing anything, and as if it has to render EVERYTHING from scratch anytime you click on anything.   My cache is set to 25GB max and is on my SSD, there's no reason for anything to be slow. 

One of the worst things is trying to toggle back and forth between the "Before" and "After" versions of an image.  There should be no processing at all needed (especially with the "Before" version because it never changes), but Lightroom grinds to a halt and performance doesn't improve much when continuing to toggle between the two.

Yes I've done this. Initially it seems to help but then after 30 mins or so its back to beaing really slow again, at which time I have to restart LR. I forgot to mention that when LR has slowed down to virtually a halt, the LR screen (apart from top bar) goes Black for a couple of seconds, as if it has to refresh all the interface. It looks like a memory thing to me but I have plenty of that.

That seems to have helped a little bit anyway.  It's not bogging down rendering the 'Before' & 'After' views as much now.  (So far I've done some editing, left it running overnight, and it seems to still be working fairly well, still not lightning fast, but much more usable)

I 'reset' (deleted) the preference file here: (C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 6 Preferences.agprefs)

The OS was very recently installed, and so was Lightroom CC.

OK, I have been meaning to ask about this/bring this up for a while as it may or may not contribute to performance issues but if anyone else has experienced this, please let me hear it from you.

What kind of additional background processes are running when using the creative cloud version of PS and LR?   I have seen on a couple of occasions now when I have been working at a theater where internet was not available and the program was dragging big time. I can't remember what made me suspect it (maybe because it was giving me crap because it couldn't sign in) but, I when into my task manager and started just closing down any and all applications related to CC except for Lightroom itself and that go my Lightroom moving again.

With that in mind I fall back to my initial question.  What kind of processes are running in the background??  If the program is relying on the exchange of information with the mother ship and for whatever reason that process isn't running smoothly, can that adversely affect program perfromance whether connected or not?

I have found that Lightroom 5.7.1 is much faster in the develop module when using arrow keys to move between photos than Lightroom CC 2015.x   I had signed up with creative cloud and had been complaining for several months about the poor performance of Lightroom in Develop mode. It drove me nuts..sometimes I'd hit the key a few times and then sit there waiting for it to finish moving 3 photos over.  I tried everything, all kinds of suggestions. I put my catalog and cache on an SSD drive and then the photos themselves on another SSD drive...it was still laggy.  
When I ugpraded to a 40 megapixel camera, the performance was so much worse that now I really started to dislike Lightroom.  I started looking at alternatives...
Then I read somewhere how the older version of Lightroom was faster.  So luckily using creative cloud I'm able to install the previous LR version 5.7.1.  Now its not able to read my sony a7RII raw files, but I converted them all to DNG and I'm now able to use both 5.7.1 and LR CC 2015 on the same DNG files.  
The performance difference is blatantly obvious.  
It bothers me that Adobe has this much newer version with so many updates, and yet they seem to have gone backwards.  
So in both cases with 5.7.1 and CC 2015, I have the same drives, same DNG files...only difference is the catalog.  
My computer is a 4 Ghz I7 with 32 gigs DDR3 RAM.  video card has 4 gigs of DDR video memory.
But the fact that 5.7.1 is so much faster tells me that my computer has nothing to do with it...its the software.

Just making sure.. But have you tried to turn on the option in Preferences-Performance, to use Smart Previews for editing?  If you haven't, it might help.  Also try disabling the GPU in case the GPU-offloading time is a culprit.

After a full season of tears @ Lightroom CC, I finally resolved the painstakingly slow performance in the Develop module. I copied the RAW files to an external HD - I then created Smart Previews using a Lightroom catalog on a standard internal drive. I then unplugged the external HD containing the originals and found that this totally transformed the performance. I noticed that Adobe have now included the option to "work on smart previews when in develop mode" but the metho9d above works much better.

Yep, I used to do something similar.  I had everything in LR referencing a mapped 'network' drive, even though that drive was still internal.  When I wanted to force faster speed using the smart previews, I just selected 'disconnect'.
I finally JUST got around yesterday to converting the references to point directly to the files, given the new option.  But I suppose keeping it that way would have also enforced the smart preview use even when zooming in 1:1.  In which I've been noticing a slowdown when going 1:1 as it reads the real raw file.  ...  Ehh..  I suppose if it gets to be too much, I'll just re-reference them again - now that I know how, using the 'update folder location' of the right-click menu on the folder.

I have the same issues - slow LR. I have a 2nd monitor - sometimes takes 5 seconds for adjustments to show up there. Crazy mouse action (resize crop and then it flips 45 degreess and shrinks to a dot), etc. Resetting LR sometimes helps;

Based on suggestions - i disabled all plugins..and so far so good!

yes, you are receiving a comment three years later.  But thanks for this tip.  I was unaware of the plugins as I had never installed any myself.  Imagine my shock and horror when I saw that I was running Adobe Stock, Facebook, Flickr, and Nikon Tether.  I don't use any of those.  I don't have a Facebook account. I don't have a Flickr account, and I don't own any Nikon cameras.  Adobe installed these without my knowledge - crippling Lightroom for me.  Ridiculous.

David, just to clarify, are you saying you were having performance issues and these went away when you disabled these plug-ins? These particular ones shouldn't be doing anything unless you're actively using them, so that could be a useful tip. If you go to Help menu > System Info, can you please confirm which LR version you're using too?

Sorry for the very late reply. 

Yes I am saying there was a marked improvement in performance when I removed those plugins.  My Lightroom version was up to date as of the time of my post.  I certainly never ran those Plugins, maybe they were running in the background?  I don't know.  I do know this I did not install any of them.  They were installed for me during the Lightroom install process or during an update.  Lightroom is running quite well these days.

Unfortunately, the CC desktop app isn't reliable and often fools people into thinking they're on the "latest", when in fact they're sometimes a year or more out of date.  Can you do Help > System Info and tell us the exact version you're running now?  Thanks.
