P: LR 4.1 RC, Flickr publishing broken

With LR 4.1 RC, the Flickr publisher seems to be broken. I added 2 new photos to a collection today after updating to the 4.1 RC, and tried to publish, but I get an error message: "Can't update this collection. An internal error has occurred: Invalid at the top level of the document."

Publishing the same collection (without the 2 new images) worked fine yesterday in 4.0 before the RC update. Closing and re-starting LR did not solve the issue. Running Vista x64 SP2 with all updates and 64-bit LR installed.

create a new Flickr publishing profile. Simply editing the existing profile will not work with this release candidate. if that doesn't work then uninstall and reinstall v4.0.

Dont delete the non-working service. It may end up working in the final release. just create the new one until a final update is released.

How do we get informed about new releases?

I happen to be at this email-list about LR4.1RC and that is how I got informed.

Is there any other way, do you email owners of LR when there is a new version? I'm scared that I might once miss the boat when I'm out of the office...actually working.

Thanks for fixing Flickr uploads.

No it hasn't been fixed: I just downloaded LR4.1 RC2, and I still get 'Flickr authentication failed'.

It fixed the problem on my system. Go into Flickr and revoke the authorization for LR. When you restart lr and publish it should ask you to authentiate in Flicker again.

This problem still exists in the 4.1 final release (under MacOS 10.7.4). The cause and symptoms are the same (replace a photograph previously uploaded to Flickr).

Adding a new dummy Flickr service does not appear to resolve the issue for me.

One of the Lightroom engineers thought that logging out and back into Flickr might get things back to a better state. Can you try that and let us know.

Logging out and logging back in doesn't solve the problem of photos with captions containing newlines, nor does creating a new instance of the Flickr publish service:

I can not even create a new flickr profile in LR 4.1 (OSX 10.6):

So this is not about any carriage return.

If the issue is that you are receiving the message "Can't update this collection - Could not contact the Flickr web service" it may be because you have forced a line break (aka "carriage return") in your image caption. I read elsewhere in posts that this might be the cause. I often do that using the "Ctrl-Enter" keystroke combination to create a new paragraph. Just now I went back to an offending image, removed that Ctrl-Enter function (which closed up the text) and the image uploaded!

I upgraded my LR 3,6 and what I downloaded was a LR version called 4,1 for Windows (July 20th).
Stéphane LeDauphin commented a month ago about Carriage Return killing LR4 export to Flickr - well this is still the same problem today!

A can't believe this is happening! I waited a really long time before upgrading in order to avoid all initial problems with the version - and then I get a piece of software that requires me to remove all Carriage Returns from my image captions if I want to update my old photos - which is exactly what LR4 recommends you to do!

... and since I allowed LR4 to change the LR3,6 database instead of creating a new - I have similar problems with LR 3,6. No upload possible.

When can we expect a fix for this?

I am seeing this issue in LR4.1 after trying to publish an image that does not have a carriage return (caption is actually blank).

Can’t update this collection.
An internal error has occurred: Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=4 "Line 1: Document is empty
" UserInfo=0x117311060 {NSLocalizedDescription=Line 1: Document is empty
}

I removed authorization and reauthorized, but that hasn't helped. I haven't tried adding a new Flickr publish service as I have ~150 images already in there and don't want to mess with what I've got.

I can upload to Flickr from LR4 OK but there is no option given to enter a caption or comment for each picture within the plugin. However, if I first upload to my other site, 500px, their plugin does give me that option. If I then upload to Flickr, Flickr somehow picks up the data I entered into the 500px plugin and shows the caption etc!
