P: Minor Keyword Renaming Issue

Lightroom 3.4.1: On Win7 systems both the 'Edit Keyword Tag' and 'Rename' context menu items (when right-clicking on a keyword in the Keyword List) both produce the same result, specifically the Edit Keyword Tag dialog box. The 'rename in place' capability of LR2 seems to have been lost.

A minor issue, as the Edit Keyword Tag also allows renaming, but mentioned for complete accuracy.

Do you know at what point that changed? I just checked 2.7 and the behaviour is the same as 3.x

Victoria, have just rechecked my version 2 test system and realised it's still at 2.6....on which version Rename works correctly. So unless this is another of those Mac/Windows differences, it would suggest that it broke in the 2.7 upgrade.

Ah, ok, I'll see if I can dig up a 2.6 build, thanks. Back tomorrow!

Victoria,

On my 2.7 (Win7 64-Bit), the behaviour is the same as Jim describes for his 2.6, and differently than 3.4.1.

I've recorded a little screen capture which shows how in 2.7 there is a difference between "Rename" and "Edit Keyword Tag ...", whereas in 3.4.1 both actions lead to the "Edit Keyword Tag" dialog.

Great video, thank you. So:
Windows 2.6 - inline edit
Mac 2.6 - dialog
Windows 2.7 - inline edit
Mac 2.7 - dialog
Windows 3.x - dialog
Mac 3.x - dialog

I wonder whether it's a bug, or whether it's just been brought in line with the Mac version.

Question for you - when you rename a folder, do you get an inline edit or a dialog box? That'll probably set the precedent.

Well, if Adobe have indeed brought things into line, I have to say I'd be confused by their implementation choice as it seems to me we now have an illogical behaviour on both platforms. If any bringing into line was needed it should have been to either change the Mac version to be the same as the Windows version, or change BOTH to get rid of the 'Rename' context menu option.

However, given the relative triviality of the 'problem' it's difficult to be overly concerned either way.

Hi Jim,

This is now in our bug database. Not sure if the bug is "Menu item 'Rename' doesn't work" or if the bug is "Menu item 'Rename' should be removed." :-)

Thanks,
Ben
