Update 10/16/2023 - Midday - Central Time (US)

The issue has been traced to a server issue on our end and is not a failure of the Lightroom Classic update itself.  This issue has been rectified.

This means that the previous recommendation for this issue is to perform a clean reinstall of 13.0.1, is still the correct resolution as you may have residual files from previous attempts to install present on your system.

There is no additional update (i.e., waiting for 13.0.2) that is necessary to corr

Same thing just happened to me. How can we resolve this problem? I attempted a chat with the virtual assistant and didn't get anywhere. I'd like to talk to someone in person but can't even locate a phone number. So frustrating!

 I had the same problem with LRC not loading and generating an error report after this lateset update. I followed the suggestions of unistalling and doing a clean install along with restarting the computer in between and that did allow LRC to looad, BUT ... I've lost all my photos in the catalog. When the prompt to update the catalog come up I said yes, but now there are NO photos in my catalog. This is a real drag. Can anyone offer advice on how I can restore my old catalog and get my photos back into the catalog? I'm kicking myself for doing this latest upgrade -- wish I hadn't done it.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography - question: does this cause you to lose any LrC settings/preferences, etc? Because if so, the alternative of reverting to 13.0 and waiting for the next update, which one would hope, would not result in a crash on program start, is an easier and arguably better option.

@AManWithACamera.com

There should be no loss of data, preferences or presets.  A clean reinstall of Lightroom should not touch any customer content. I do it regularly as I run so many alpha/beta versions and have never had issue.

That said, a good backup before hand is always prudent!

After updating to LR 13.0.1 this morning, LR no longer launches.  Evern after rebooting, receive the same error when attempting to launch LR.  PS (25.0) runs just fine, just no LR.

@dawii

After examination by the engineering staff who've been reviewing logs, this appears to be the result of an aberrant installation.  If you follow the steps in the Pinned post I've outlined and @John R Ellis  confirmed in the "Correct Answer", you should be able to resolve this today without update.

Please let us know how you fared.

"Adobe Lightroom Classic.app quit unexpectedly. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple"

I just downloaded the new LR Classic update to my MacBook Air 2023 (M2 chip). The install went okay but now I cannot open my old Lightroom v12 or the new v13.

This is exasperating as I am leaving on a multi-week trip tomorrow.

The steps outlined by @Rikk Flohr: Photography did work for me on my MBP. But it's a new machine with essentially a virgin LrC install and no catalog. I have not yet tried it on my main machine which is the Mac mini. Still concerned that I will end up loosing some settings or preferences by uninstalling LrC 13.0 as step one.

"Still concerned that I will end up losing some settings or preferences by uninstalling LrC 13.0 as step one."

I uninstall/reinstall LR many times a year as part of my plugin development, and I've never lost any preferences. When you click uninstall, you'll be asked whether to keep all your preferences and plugins:

Just upgraded my LRC last night and the new version 13.0.1 will not launch when I choose open.  I keep getting the message that the app unexpectedly quit. I reverted to the previous version 13.0.0 and it works just fine.  Any others having this problem? I'm using a MacBook Pro M1 32GB

Thanks for the post. I've ended up going back to LR 13.0 on Mac OS 14. It seems the critical bug fix for LR 13.0.1 has introduced a bigger critical bug.

Problem is, it won't even open. Adobe, pleasse sort.

Meanwhile, I have gone back to 12.5 which at least is stable

I did the clean reinstall of 13.0.1 as outlined.  But it only registered about 25k of my (remembered 35-40k) pictures.  I tried a second clean reinstall, but it still only captured 25k of my images.  There are entire folders showing no images, but when I go to import images from that same folder, it shows tens to hundreds of images already in the catalog and not available to import.  How do I go about going back to 12.x (which I have a saved catalog for), and then trying 13.0.1 again from that base?  Thank you.

Critical update for Lightroom classic (13.0.1) causes the program to crash on restarting after update. Required restoring LR classic from time machine. Do the experts know why this should happen and any remedies please. Using M1 MacBook Pro with 64Gb of RAM and running Sonoma 14.
