P: Bug when using adjustment brush, mask overlay and a Wacom tablet

Explorer ,
Apr 24, 2015 Apr 24, 2015

I have found a bug found in Lightroom 6. When I use the adjustment brush, I use the ‘show selected mask overlay’ feature but with Lightroom 6 it is hardly visible when you make an adjustment. Very very pale pink. With Lightroom 5 it was much more visible. If I go to adjust an existing photo I altered first in Lightoom 5 and open it in Lightroom 6 the mask overlay is much deeper pink but as soon as I brush on more adjustment, what ever I add shows as pale pink. The problem happens when I use a Wacom tablet or Wacom mouse. I have just had a chat to Victoria Bampton and she just reproduced the same problem with her Wacom tablet. With her Apple trackpad though it worked fine. I am using Yosemite 10.10.3.

As is typical, I can no longer reproduce the issue I was having the other day, but it seemed to be a lowered response to pen pressure.

I wonder why I am getting it with the Wacom mouse as well. That just seems really strange.

After more use with the brushes with a Wacom tablet the strength of the adjustments is also not correct no matter what you use, clarity, sharpness, exposure, temperature, tint etc etc. They all come out under strength.

The adjustment brush in LR CC/6 ignores the pen pressure of my Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch (model CTH-460). It works perfectly in LR 5.

Driver version is 5.3.0-3.

I am using a totally different Wacom and imagine Victoria will be using a different one to the both of us. Mine is a Wacom CTE-430 Sapphire which comes with a pen and mouse. I can remember there being a similar problem with Lightroom 4 and Wacom tablets at one point.

That was an Intuos 3 Medium I was using to test. I also have a recent Intuos Pro Small here that I'll test later too. There have been other (fixed) Wacom related bugs, so it doesn't surprise me that this one's popped up.

I imagine you will get the same problem with the small as well Victoria. Hopefully the bug will get fixed quickly.

I can confirm the lack of pressure sensitivity in Lr CC using Intuos 2 with drivers 6.2.0w5 (latest for this tablet) on Windows 7. Worked ok in 5.7.1.

Sorry, perfect on the small too. Mac using 6.3.11-3. Stu, which driver are you on? I'm wondering if it's an older device or older driver issue.

Actually when I got the Mac I am using at the moment the Wacom just worked as is. I will check what drivers are available for this tablet and report back.

Driver 5.3.0-3 will not work on Yosemite 10.10.3 and that is the last driver they made for it. If I run the pen in 32 bit then it can be used.

Sebastian is running that driver on Windows 7 and still having the problem.

So all of these older models of Wacom tablets use different drivers to yours Victoria. The fact I am not using a driver and therefore do not use the sensitivity but still have the issue indicates the problem the problem is the age of the tablets. Is it possible Adobe have dropped support for them or forgotten to add support? I am feeling a trip to West Quay coming on if Adobe have dropped support. 😞

It's likely that they're now using driver functionality that's only available in more modern drivers. Whether you take a shopping trip is up to you (check Amazon's prices, usually good discounts!), but since any potential fix is likely to take 2-3 months (unless you can convince Wacom to support your OS), I'd debate how long I could go without that functionality.

Well I am not sure it is a driver issue as unlike everyone else I am not running a driver. I think what all the tablets not working have in common is that they do not have drivers that are officially supported by Yosemite. So maybe Adobe have taken the decision not to support them regardless of the fact some people are running Windows 7 or 8. Wacom Intuos small Pen Tablet is available for £59.95 and found the Intuos Pro small available on Amazon and Wex for £159.95. Interestingly they both use the same driver.

I think there's still a basic driver running there as part of the OS.

On another Adobe site someone has just reported the same problem whilst using the Intros small pro and the latest driver. I have asked him if he could post here as well and confirm which OS he is using and the driver number. His name is Dan and you can see his comment here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/7484...

Sebastian you say your using driver 5.3.0-3. The link below, suggest 5.3.5-3 is the latest driver. Have you tried that one?

Yes, but with this one (and 5.3.3) my tablet does not work at all. As soon as I approach it with my pen the brush size changes (it grows to insanely large values) and the touch function is completely unusable.

So 5.3.0-3 is the most recent version that is usable.

So the same tablet, the latest driver for the OS and just a different OS to Victoria who is using a Mac. Does not seem to be much consistency with the problem at the moment of who gets it and who does not.

A user of a german forum with a mac doesn't have this problem too... but all others with a win system have all the same problem like me.
