P: Masking panel entering values manually or via arrow keys no longer preview until Enter is pressed

Community Beginner ,

Hi. In the latest version 15.1, when I change a value (e.g., from "0" to 100" or "-100"), the effect doesn't appear after entering it manually. The change only appears after pressing enter. This wasn't the case before. This makes work very difficult!

Hi @Jagodzinio.pl,

Thank you for the clarification and for bringing this to our attention. I can confirm that I’m able to reproduce this behavior in Lightroom Classic 15.1 on macOS, specifically in the Develop > Masking controls, where manually typing a value does not preview the adjustment until Enter is pressed.

I’ve flagged this issue with the product team to determine whether it is a regression or expected behavior going forward. I’ll update this thread once I have more information from them.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

I updated to LrC 15.1 on my desktop PC (Win 11 latest). When editing filter Exposure and Highlights and probably other fields, I usually select the field, then use the arrow keys or number pad arrow keys to increase and decrease the numbers. It is incrementing the History window with a step for each increase, even though still highlighted. It should only increment once deselected. The keys refuse to edit the numbers at times, or jump in odd amounts, generally allowing negative but not positive increases.

I recently changed my main monitor to a 4K one form 2K, but I'm fairly sure it was fine, and the change came with LrC 15.1. It doesn't happen in the overall image editing fields, they are fine, it only happens editing filters, mostly graduated so far. Very odd. I checked my keyboard USB connections, and rebooted. I also moved LrC to my old 2K monitor (now being used a s a second monitor) but still not behaving on filters.

Hi @bruceclarke! Thank you for reaching out! I couldn't reproduce this issue on my Windows machine, but I can understand how frustrating it can be to update an app expecting improvements, only to find that it slows you down instead. I'll help you out with this! Could you please share a screen recording of your issue, so that we can take a closer look? You can share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another public file-sharing platform.

In the meantime try resetting your preferences and see if it helps. Please try the manual method from this HelpX article: How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences

Also, try this: in Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor > Off.

Let us know how it goes!

@BruceClarke

I can not reproduce this on my Mac either.  I tried both in Basic panel Exposure and Mask Exposure.

Hi @Noel Orridge  Thanks for your reply. Please find a screen recording on the Dropbox link below. I'll delete it after a few days. You can see the shadow field in the grad filter descending by one keypress of the down arrow, adding a History step each time. I then hit the up key, but nothing changed. I can type values in direct of course. I'll now try resetting Prefs...

@Noel Orridge  Resettting prefs and disabling hardware acceleration didn't work. Still the same.

I'm not sure why this has been marked as solved? I and @sheldong26810370 both still have this problem on our Win 11 PCs. It's obviously not everyone, but a definite bug. I tried restting Preferences and disabling GPU acceleration to no effect. I will probably have to revert to LrC until fixed.

I updated to 15.1 and now when I use masking whenever I type in a value for a setting for the mask (exposure, etc.) the change to the displayed image doesn't appear until after I hit return.  Before it would change the image as soon as I typed a value.  For example, for exposure I might type .1 then change it to .2 and both would update the displayed image before hitting return.  It still works this way when not using a mask.

I verified the problem occurs with LR 15.1 but not 15.0.1 on Mac OS 15.7.1.  Steps to reproduce (see the attached screen recordings for LR 15.0.1 and 15.1):

1. Apply a Subject mask.

2. Click in the numeric field for the mask's Exposure slider.

3. Type 1.  No change in Exposure appears on the image (incorrect).

4. Type Delete and then 2. Repeat for 3 and 4.  Observe no change in Exposure appears on the image (incorrect).

5. Type Enter and observe the change in Exposure on the image.

@Anshul_Saini - another thing that doesn't work are the values in "Denoise" (LrC, 15.0.1 - yes, after downgrade, W11).

Maybe tech support will check all the options right away. After all, we pay a fortune for your software. Nobody pays us to test it and report bugs.

I would also be grateful if you did not mark the topic as "solved".

Look this is a very basic function in LrC.   So it's pretty obvious that most people who use this product are affected.  That being said, I hope this "fix" won't be delayed because the number of "votes" aren't "enough".
