P: Post-Crop Vignette problem when using Process 2003

In LR5, when a photo using Process 2003 is selected, the Post-Crop Vignette Style is instantly changed to "Paint Overlay." It's not possible to undo past this step using Ctrl-Z or Edit > Undo. If more than one step past this Vignette Style change is selected under History, those steps end up being deleted with no option to undo the deletion. For Process 2003, the "Highlight Priority" and "Color Priority" options are no longer available for Post-Crop Vignette Style.

Highlight Priority and Color Priority were added with Process Version 2010, so they are not available for Process Version 2003.

If you are using Highlight priority or Color priority, then switch to PV 2003, Lightroom has to select the only available option, which is Paint Overlay.

I'm not clear about the undo problem you describe. If I have Post-Crop Vignette applied, then switch to PV 2003, I can Ctrl-Z to undo the Process Version switch.

This problem happens if you updated from a Lightroom 4 catalog (and probably the same for a Lightroom 3 catalog).

In LR3 and LR4, Highlight Priority and Color Priority are available options for PV 2003. In LR3 and LR4, Highlight Priority was the default applied for PV 2003, not Paint Overlay, when updating from a Lightroom 2 catalog.

Now in Lightroom 5, if you select a photo that was set to PV 2003 and Highlight Priority (brought over from a LR4 catalog), it automatically changes to Paint Overlay. This step cannot be undone. Also, let's say for example you've performed 10 other actions first. Then as soon as you select a photo set to PV 2003 and Highlight Priority, you can no longer Ctrl-Z to undo those 10 actions.

If more than one step past this automatic change to Paint Overlay is selected under History, those steps end up being deleted with no option to undo the deletion.

thanks for explaining - I misunderstood before. There is a bug in which Process Version 2003 photos (only) in catalogs that have been upgraded to Lightroom 5.0 will incorrectly get a "Post Crop Vignette: Paint Overlay" History State applied when further processed in the Develop Module. This in-and-of-itself is innocuous, however, for photos in this condition, selecting a subsequent History State can reset existing settings that follow that state in the History panel. This reset cannot be undone, effectively deleting any settings that have been applied after the selected History State.

We are working on a fix for next dot release of Lightroom. In the meantime, a back-up copy of your previous Lightroom catalog is always recommended and will insure that all settings are recoverable for those who experience this issue.

I'm not sure I understand your advice: does this mean that we have to revert back to LR4 to be able to work on these pictures?
Any idea when this fix is expected? If it is months, I guess I''ll have to revert to the previous version.

The problem is somewhat worse than your description. Even opening a picture with 2003 Processing in the Develop module will add this history step.

I've already started new work in my main catalog and don't really want to chuck all that away by reverting to a backup. Is the fix also going to find images that have had this step incorrectly applied? I hope I only touched a few before realising this was happening - and there are maybe only one or two where I've ended up with deleted history steps that I will have to recover manually.

This is quite serious. Just browsing images should not make changes to the processing steps. I'm not sure how many of my images now have this potential problem - I can't use Lightroom to check, because it would just create more changes.

I'm just in the process of going back to LR 4.4 having had several psd edits ruined by this bug. My 4.4 catalogs still have the correct psd edits, but exporting those files as a catalog and then importing the upgraded catalog into LR5 just results in a 'can't import because of an 'unknown error'. Two bugs to be cured before I'm using LR5 again.

I'm now back in 4.4 and have recovered the ruined psd edits from some old 4.4 catalogs. Not going back to 5 until these bugs are sorted.

I'm concerned about this as well as I have many images in 2003 and DID open some of them in the develop module in LR 5. I see the problem. I am concerned.

After successful install of LR%, I deleted LR 4.4 and catalogs, etc. Since then:

I have restored copies of my LR 4 catalogs to my desktop if needed from backups. BUT, I also write to xmp files. DO I need to find all of these for possibly changed images with Process 2003?

I do not want to delete LR5 as I am hoping for a quick fix that will allow me to continue on. But not seeing much movement on this, I am considering reinstalling 4.4 to work there until an LR 5 fix. Now, if I reinstall, will it find all of my settings, etc even though LR5 has been installed and 4.4 removed previously?

I'm pretty confused and concerned about losing edits. And to complicate things further a lot of the 2003 process edits were on jpgs as this was before i was knowledgeable to shoot in RAW. Makes me more concerned for things that could be lost

Help? Advice? Best way to move out of this issue?
