P: Problem exporting specific file sizes in Lightroom 4 (and 4.3) on a Windows 8 PC.

I run Lightroom 4 on a Windows 8 pc. When I try to export images, I use the file settings to limit the size of the export images to a specified size (2000 K). When I ran LR4 on a Windows7 pc, I had no problems, but using the same settings on a Windows 8 PC, I get an error message after the export is completed indicating "some export operations were not performed" along with a list of files. When I look at the export destination, all files are present, but the size of the files do not meet the 2000K limit I asked for.

As I mentioned, the settings are the same as I used without issue with a Windows 7 PC. I have run both LR4 and LR4.3 with the same results.

Is this a known error? Is it being addressed? When can I expect a fix? This significantly impacts my workflow.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with the german version. I like to use LR to prepare my uploads into a forum software which has file size limits. I'm very unhappy with this bug.

Jens, try this:

I got this suggetion from another message board. Instead of using the File Settings area of the Export function, go to the next one down, Image Settings. In the drop down box is a selection for 'megapixels". Select that, then put the size you want in the megapixel area. You can add a resolution (ie, 300 ppi) if you like.

That worked great for me.

Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem. LR4.3, Win 8. It all worked fine until I upgraded to Win 8! My problem is that I need to both limit the files size say to 1000KB and the image size to say 1400x1050 pixles. The error goes away if you do not limit the file size, but only the image size. I have to do both for most of the competitions I enter.

In another forum it was suggested to export the files to a different drive. I was outputting the exported files to the C: drive. I changed it to output to another internal drive, my M: drive. The problem went away. It seems strange to me but it is now working fine. I have to change a few things in my work flow but at least the problem is gone for now.

Thanks Steven, and others. I am able to reproduce this problem (it does seem to be isolated to Windows 8) and I have entered the issue in our bug database.

Thanks,
Ben

I am using 4.3, when I export files I can set the image to 1280x960 and quality to 80% and get a file size of 601 KB. When I use the Limit File Size to 750 LR4 indicates it can't save the file and I have to exit LR. When I check the file size it is 1152 KB. I can play around with the quality settings to get the file size I want but I was spoiled with the Limit file size setting. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bill Irish

Has this issue been resolved yet? Need to export images for clients at specific sizes and dimensions and can't do it. Can we have an update on when this will be fixed?
