P: "Enable AI Analysis" message keeps recurring

Explorer ,
Dec 10, 2025 Dec 10, 2025

I'm on 15.0.1 currently and have AI culling off as I simply don't find the feature useful and don't need it running in the background every time I enter Library mode. So to that end I have it disabled in my catalog settings intentionally, however every minute or two, the message "Enable AI Analysis in Catalog Settings to use Assisted Cullling" appears ON TOP OF the photo I'm currently editing. I click the "X" and it simply reappears a few minutes later. It's incredibly distracting, especially while cropping. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a professional photo editing app to allow the user to edit a photo without messages popping up on top of the photo every few minutes. How can I completely disable AI culling analysis from running without having this message appear? Or is this a bug to be fixed in a future release?

Hi @julius_s, thanks for reaching out to the Lightroom Classic forums! That is not expected behaviour, so let's try a few things to fix it:

1. Ensure no Assisted Culling filters or badges are active in the Library.

2. Reset Lightroom Preferences: Please refer to this Helpx article for steps.  https://adobe.ly/3HsQXpA It is recommended to back up your catalog before resetting preferences. You may refer to this article for more information:  https://adobe.ly/4dW8vqF.

3. In Preferences > Performance, set Use Graphics Processor to Off and restart.

4. Test in a new catalog with AI Analysis off.

If the banner still appears, please let us know, and we can continue troubleshooting the issue. I hope this helps! ^CH

Can you please explain how to disable "Assisted Culling filters or badges?" I have it disabled in the catalog and don't understand where else I  am supposed to disable it.

I'll also add that this is happening on every single catalog I've opened since the 15.0 update

I don't still don't know exactly what you mean about the badges but I will note that I have the "Assisted Culling" and "Culling Scores" panels disabled. Even opening them up and unchecking everything, after resetting preferences, creating a new catalog, and disabling the GPU, the issue remains. It seems to pop up whenever I press command-L to enable filtering, which is something I do constantly while editing events and weddings.

Do you also have Assisted Culling PAUSED in the settings found by using the downarrow by the Identity Plate in the upper left hand corner.  I will agree with you that Adobe has made disabling Assisted Culling a problem with a lot of hidden settings.

1 Turn off things in Catalog Settings

2 Disable Culling panels

3 Pause culling

Thats 3 different places where one should suffice, especially for a tool that in my opinion is POOR at best.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate the suggestion and forgot about that area - but it turns out I do have it paused there as well. Are you able to turn your library filters off and then back on without this message appearing?

Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who is finding this feature implementation lacking! I wasn't sure if I was in a tiny minority or if others were also unenthused.

Yes, I am able to turn the library filters off and then back on without this message appearing?  Check to see if you have a Culling Filter stuck in one of your filter presets.  I have had Culling disabled since it was released but recall there was some filter setting in the TOP filter bars.  They may have been active when you saved a preset.  I do not want to change mine to test to see as it is working now😊 and do not want to mess it up.

I have several associates that use LrC and none of them use it.  They tried but had to check EVERY photo anyway, both good and bad, as the accuracy of the results were too poor to use blindly so if you have to check every photo anyway you might as well keep it off.  I do not really need it anyway.

Very odd. I don't and have never used filter presets - I pretty much only use flags, and then when I need to filter by metadata I just set it up manually each time, I never go more complex than ISO, lens, body or crop orientation, and always only one at a time. I don't even see any Assisted Culling filters. The message appears -albeit inconsistently -  regardless of whether I use Command-L or press the flag icon in the bottom toolbar. It's interesteing that sometimes it will stop displaying when I turn on and off filters, than all of the sudden it will appear every time I disable or enable filters.

To your other comment - same here. It would pick photos with eyes closed or that were out of focus, and reject perfectly fine and in-focus photos. It would also stack photos seemingly arbitrarily. It was entirely useless and a huge time sink since every single image needed to be double-checked. I turned it off after giving it an honest try on two projects.

Just another update - I tried disabling all plugins in case that was your next suggestion - the issue remains even with zero plugins enabled.

Sorry but I am out of suggestions for now but your idea of disabling plugins was a good one.

In Library, right-click on one of the Panels on the right side and ensure the Assisted Culling and Culling Scores are unchecked to hide those panels.

With the Assisted Culling panel open, the pestering " Enable AI Analysis..." message pops up often.

Sorry, I didn't read your replies carefully enough. I should have read this:

"It seems to pop up whenever I press command-L to enable filtering..."

I can now replicate this issue.

If Ctrl/Cmd+L is used to enable the Library Filters, the "Enable AI Anaysis..." message is displayed. If I use the mouse to click enable individual filters or the Attribute filter switch in the Filmstrip, the message is not displayed.

I believe this is a bug.

Thanks Rikk, I appreciate it. I wish you would take my other bug report seriously - I use this software professionally, I use it well, and am trying to report something that affects a large number of users. It's incredibly frustrating to not be taken seriously or even receive an acknowledgement that there is either a bug or serious design flaw.

@julius_s

Researching every post you've made on this forum, I found one bug (Fixed) in 13.0.2 and one feature request (Decouple Tint/Temp in WB for Presets/Copy/Paste/Etc., and this thread.

Unless there is a thread you can point me to that is not one of these, then I am at a loss to understand what you are speaking about.

" I wish you would take my other bug report seriously -" This statement is based upon a false supposition.

Thank you for the reply. I am referrring to having temp and tint coupled. This is either a bug or a serious design flaw - it wasn't always this way, it is actively and demonstrably detrimental to many event and wedding workflows, there is no demonstrable reason for them to be coupled, and numerous reasons why it would be helpful to decouple them. I - and I would imagine everyone else on that thread - would appreciate some sort of explanation for what appears to be either a bug or a design decision with absolutely zero logical reasoning behind it.

Has anyone fixed this?  I've tried all of the suggestions and this pop-up is driving me CRAZY!

I'm exhausted from closing it.  All the Ai/culling features I can find and you mention I have turned OFF.  I cannot however uncheck the box under Library that says "assisted culling"  It is the check mark I cannot uncheck.  I've done everything else in this thread and I've searhec "unchecking Assisted culling" with No Joy.

There is nothing you can do except not use the Cmd/Ctrl+L until it is fixed by Adobe.

I cannot however uncheck the box under Library that says "assisted culling"

What does this mean? A screen shot would help.

Yeah welcome to Adobe as a professional user who just needs to get work done and doesn't need a bunch of trendy features that not only don't work but actually break the program. This happens at least once a year. Last year or the year before the bug was that you couldn't go to the next photo without going forward, then back, then forward again to get the photo to actually display. Took them like 3-4 months to fix.
