I have Folder called Pictures where all the Pictures I made are stored, Pictures of other sources are store at a diffrent place, on the hard disk. All Folders are in the lightroom database.
Before Version 7.0 the Smart Collection with "Folder starts with Picture" only locked in the proper Folder and found Pictures. In Version 7.0 this doesen't work anymore 😞
The Folder isn't renamed and didn't contain any spaces.

A workaround is to use "contains words", "contains", or "contains all" (adjusting the search string as necessary).  They appear to work correctly.

But it wants to republish all the photos, and that could take days if it is uploading to Flikr for example.

Sunil, any idea on how long this simple fix will take? It should be relatively easy to fix.

I haven't been able to publish anything since Classic came out as I don't want to use the work around as it will mean republishing 1000s of images and take days or weeks to do.

Still no fix for this? All of my smart collections are still broken, and my workflows relies on this functionality!

I have the same problem and like Ed smart collections are a critical part of my workflow. Spending several hours changing Starts With to Contains and then having to change them back later is not the solution I am looking for.

Issue persists in Lightroom Classic 7.3. At least some smart collections of the published services still show 0 photos. It only seems to affect smart collections that use a like "folder contains 01 misc" or "folder starts with 01 birthday". No issue with 02 and so on...

The issue persists in the latest version. As you can see in the screenshot, the rule is quite simple and actually very similar to all my published smart folders. As you can see only the published smart folders with "01" have zero photos. Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic... The same happens in the other publlished folder sets (2016, ...). If I change the rule from "starts with" to "contains all" the folder shows strangely photos from all system folder "2017" that contain the word "Sonstige". "01" seems to be ignored completely???

"If I change the rule from "starts with" to "contains all" the folder shows strangely photos from all system folder "2017" that contain the word "Sonstige". "01" seems to be ignored completely?"

This is because "folder contains all x y z" means the folder path contains x and it contains y and it contains z.   So "folder contains 01 Sonstige" matches the folder path "2017 / 02 Sonstige" because the path contains "01" (in the string "2017") and it contains "Sonstige".

If you change it to "folder contains words 01 Sonstige", then it won't match "2017 / 02 Sonstige", because the word "01" doesn't match any word (blank-separated string) in the path.

Thanks for reply and the detailed explanation of the "contains all" rule. The language of the UI is English.
I just recognize that I do not really understand what "folder" in the context of smart folder rules of Lightroom means. Is it the file path, i.e. "/home/andreas/library/2017/01 Sonstige"? If this is the case then the "starts with" rule should not work at all for me. Or is it a list of folders where each folder is matched with the rule, i.e. "home", "andreas", "library", "2017", etc.?
Anyway, it is weird and annoying that it stopped working in 7.x. I recreated the published smart folders, created new ones for 2018, but nothing helped. It does not work for any system folders that start with "01 " and "1 ". "10" works again...

BTW them operating system is the latest macOS High Sierra.

The Folder field refers to the full file path of the photo, with directory delimiters replaced by spaces, e.g.

/Users/john/test pics/dsc_075.jpg

is treated as:

Users john test pics dsc_075.jpg

The "starts with x" criterion is true if any space-separated word in that path starts with "x".   So "starts with pics" matches, as does "starts with dsc".

"starts with x y" matches if there is a word in the path starting with "x" and a word in the path starting with "y".

Many people think that's a weird definition of "starts with", and there's a years-old feature request somewhere here about that.  (Highly unlikely Adobe will ever act on it.)

But this doesn't address your strange symptoms of folders starting with "1" and "01".

I am running CC Classic 7.3.1. on a Mac Pro running OS 10.12.6 and have the same problem. When I try to create smart folders, the Collection Contains selector does not work as it shoud. When I put in a word, for instance 'Composites', that occurs in many collections, the smart folder selects some, but not nearly all, the photographs in those collections

This very likely a different bug. Please post a new bug report and include more details about the problem, including the exact smart-collection rules you are using.  A screenshot showing the Collections panel would be very helpful too.

This is not marked as resolved, and to me seems to remain a problem.  To me it’s a pretty simple problem.  In my case I have two folders, one is called Open Edition, the other is called Photodeck Open Edition.  The rule says to find all images in a folder which starts with Open Edition plus some other conditions.  The smart collection will find all images in both folders that meet the other conditions, not just the ones in the folder Open Editions (which is the only folder whose name starts with Open Edition)

I'm hitting this problem too. Not only does "starts with" not do what it says, is is not the folder but the PATH that is examined.   Come on Adobe, fix the problem AND fix the description.

Thanks John.  Due to the way I'm organised I find this a significant restriction.  I get around it with metadata, but that needs manual actions.

Another workaround is to use the Any Filter plugin, but that's not nearly as convenient as a smart colleciton.
