P: Typing in text field causes LrC to crash (10950165)

I am runnng the current LrC and I am currently on Mac OS 15.5, and on at least two different M chips with well endowed machines. The problem has been present for many versions of both LrC and the OS. The problem occurs when I am typing in the Title or Description field for an image. The first symptom is that the cursor position becomes eratic and the text entered becomes garbled, often duplicated and not even consistently visible until after I have restarted LrC. If I stop and restart LrC, I can correct the garbled text in the text box and proceed. What usually happens though is that LrC blows out completely and I am left with bug report windows for Adobe and Apple. I always fill these in so you should have many tens of example crash reports. I recently noticed that the problem may only occur after I turn Spell Check While Typing mode on. (Wish it was on by default but that is another story and shoukd be a post maybe). Can I be of more assistance in resolving this? Just let me know. As a retired SW developer myself, I may be of some assistance if you want me to try anything or run a debug version.

That resolves to the same crash bucket as I found earlier, but it now shows a few more crashes. I've opened a ticket for the team to investigate.

Thanks for the report.

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and found no crash reports in our system.

You said that you see a crash dialog(s)?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Apple’s?

I would think they would be under <redacted>, but the other
address I use is <redacted> I complete both Adobe and Apple
reports with each crash. The first is my Adobe ID email, but the later is
used more commonly otherwise.

Thanks.

I found a single report under LrC 14.4 using the second address. It is a 'rare' crasher. - meaning not many people experience it. Did you only have one Adobe Crash? Did you only submit one report? I am trying to make sure the report I see is valid for your post here.

I have crashes and make reports nearly every time I run LrC and I run LrC
multiple times each week. I am traveling currently but I can check the
computer and CC tonight (see below). Is there something else I can look for
- maybe when the crash occurs?

Is my being in Canada presently confusing the situation? I live in Maine
but am currently traveling in Newfoundland.

Something else you could try...

I have seen cases where the dots confuse mail daemons and other servers.
Also try binnscom@gmail.com and brettbinns@gmail.com. Dropping the dot on
many mail daemons still refers to the same address.
<redacted for privacy>

The next time you experience a crash, fill out the dialog-including your email address, screenshot the dialog, submit the dialog, and then post the screenshot here in this thread.

Thanks!

I have been using reply. I am now in the community. I hope this works smoother allowing me to post screen images.

I learned something too: I am using <redacted> so I see any responses sent back to me. See attached.

The first image shows my edit beginning to go wrong. The cursor has jumped to the front of the word and characters I haven't typed have appeared at the end. I click at the end to continue, maybe I typed another letter (not sure), and LrC crashed hard and generated the report.

The second image shows the two reports with Adobe in front. Note that the email is my regular address, and not my Adobe ID. I need to swap them around but that has always scared me. In anycase, "<redacted>" is what I use and is in the field by default - I haven't changed anything except to check that Adobe may contact me.

I hope that helps, Rikk. I appreciate your assitance and fast responses!

Another capture. It always seems to happen soon after turning on spell check while typing, and rarely fails to crash for me. I will leave spell check off (at my own peril I am afraid, I am a terrible speller). I hope these help to locate my long list of reports and provide the needed data to resolve this. I realize it is the weekend and you won't see them for a couple of days. This will be my last crash report-report unless you ask for more. Thanks, Rikk.

Just a quick update. I stopped turning on Spell check while typing and I no longer get the error (after working a couple of days). If I turn it on I will get a crash in a fairly short but unpredictable time. I am pretty sure the issue is realted to this setting.

Thanks again.
