This has been fixed in 5.5 (sort of - see below). You can download 5.5 from within the Lightroom application via Help>Check for Updates..., or you can download it manually from here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/download...

It turns out that fixing this correctly involves very invasive, far-reaching changes to the way that Lightroom handles menus on Windows. These changes were too extensive and potentially destabilizing to be thoroughly tested in time for the 5.5 release. So, we have opted ...

How do you remove the photo?

Right click > remove from collection. It also does this in the book module - which is where I have been working.

I've had a similar problem too, from time to time - then it goes away. I never had even the slightest clue why it may come, or go... Haven't seen it much lately, although I do remember the last time, because I had forgotten all about it until then. Others have reported similar problems too. For me, problem wasn't confined to undoing remove-from-collection, but was always assigning a preset instead of undoing.

Yeah, I have also noticed that it isn't strictly within collections. I have never noticed it until now.

I am having this issue. If I press undo or ctrl & z it applies a random preset which I can't then get rid of and have to reset the entire photo. It drives me crazy, especially if I have done a lot of work on the photo. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit and LR 4.1.

Oh the only way I can get it function normally again is to restart LR but it again happens within 20 mins.

I still have the issue and have to reset the photo as well. Another thing is that if I remove a photo from a collection (by unflagging it for instance), the photo will disappear, but if I ctrl-z to undo and bring it back, a preset is applied to the next photo and I then I have to remember which photo I just removed.

I'm having this issue too.

But I've discovered that is not only CTRL + Z that fire an randon preset. I've had this issue even with a mere click on About in Help menu - instead of showing the about dialog, LR "checks" the item in the menu and apply a random preset.

VERY ODD!

This bug has been in LR for quite sometime. I keep hoping that they will fix it but i guess that they haven't found it yet. It's completely random. The only way around it i've found it to restart the application. Before i start doing my final processing in lightroom (when i use presets) i do a test first to see if it's working. Today, i did that test and things were fine, after processing maybe 7 of the 8 photos that i'm finishing, it stopped working and now CTRL+Z is applying a preset instead of undoing. Very annoying.

Problem is still present in LR5. If I cull a number of presets it 'appears' to happen less. For people with the problem how many presets are you running with? (approx)

Confirmed, this most annoying bug is still a problem with Lightroom 5. I currently have 996 develop presets installed.

When the undo bug appears, I have to close and reopen Lightroom to get rid of it. Starting with Lightroom 5, a crash notification pops up after closing it when this problem came up, and I just hope it's properly being closed and doesn't silently corrupt my catalog.

It also happens from time to time when I click File -> exit. Instead of closing Lightroom a random preset is apllied for all selected pictures.

As I exported 2000 pictures I had a preset wrongly applied in 2000 !!! pictures. I have no idea how to get rid of it. The only chance is to change it manually (2000 pictures x 4 sec = 2,2h stupid work)

This is very annoying!

When I removed a photo from the Quick Collection and then did Undo, a preset was applied to the photo. This occurred repeatedly, but after restarting LR, the problem went away. (LR 5.2RC, Windows 7 64-bit.)

I just switched from lightroom 3 to lightroom 4 a few months ago, and besides lightroom 4 BEING INCREDIBLY SLOWER it was fine. Until today, when suddenly, CTRL-Z applies a random preset. And I cannot get my original image back. Even putting all the sliders back manually, I can't get my original image back. I googled it and found a ton of open discussions on it, but no solution, other than restarting lightroom. I've restarted lightroom 5 times in the past hour. This CANNOT be the only solution, especially since the last two times I restarted it, it didn't fix the problem at all. I have a ton of editing I need to do before Christmas in order to order products for clients and I need this fixed ASAP! Please help, I'm getting so frustrated.

I am not the first one report this bug and this bug is VERY annoying.

After somewhile using LR, When I press CTRL + Z, it applies a preset to the picture rather than undoing my previous move. When this bug happens. I cannont even use CTRL-Q or use the exit function on the task bar.
Yes, it is not just the problem of hotkey,it is the problem of the whole toolbar. some functions simply doesn't work, including re-do.
Restarting helps, but for a short time only, i will never know when will this ghost pop up and haunt me.
I've tried to reset the preference file a few times and follow the instruction in a previous post, the problem come back after a few days.

Hi All,

Sorry for the trouble, this sounds like a real pain in the butt. I have not yet been able to reproduce this problem, and I'm hoping to collect some info from the folks on this thread.

- Several people have said that they're using Windows (7 and 8). I haven't seen any mention of Mac. Is anyone on this thread using Mac, or is everyone on Windows?

- One person mentioned having 996 develop presets. Can other folks on this thread tell me how many presets they have?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi again - I have 140-something presets, so not too too many. I used to have this problem fairly frequently, but haven't had it now for a loooooooong time - can't figure...

I have probably > 100 presets, but the bug seems to appear during a lot of editing. The preset preview window often doesn't work and has to "catch up", and then the bug appears. Strange considering I have put recently completed a new machine and install with a fresh copy of 4.4

I have 200 or less presets. windows 7. The problem happens every time I use lightroom regardless of how many pics or what I am doing. I had to revert to my old copy of lightroom 3 since this renders lightroom 4 useless.

System is Win7 64-bit Home Premium SP1 / 8GB / i5@2.40GHz

Develop Presets: 21 folders with 713 presets (53 of those are LR presets); I've only added a handful of presets since L3, the problem began with LR4 (but at this point I can't remember what version of 4).

When this occurs (the undo issue) nothing else works, for example I can't File -> Exit (that applies the preset too), the only way out of LR is to use the windows "X" top right corner to exit.

I've followed every direction to optimize my catalog and I haven't found a specific series of events that triggers this.
