Activation code not working in China

I have just bought Lightroom for a friend who lives in China and the activation code I sent him will not work

Is there a way around this?

Sounds like you've been duped. You cannot buy Lightroom anymore for years, you can only get it through a subscription (and there are no activation codes in the subscription version).
