Adding to default collection

I am selecting several images and press "B" to add them to a default collection. However only the first of the images is added.
Is this normal behaviour or yet another "feature"???

Use Grid View [G] when adding multiple images to a Collection.

In Loupe view [E] you will only get the primary selected image from multiple selects on the Filmstrip.

Also be aware that if you press [B] a second time- the selected images are then removed from the 'Target' Collection.

But why on earth should selecting a photo in one view or another be handled differently??

I do not know 'why'!  But imagine that the Filmstrip is not currently visible- How would you select multiple images in Loupe (or Develop) View? I guess it is just not logical to select multiple image when the UI is focused on one single image.

If you are in a view that only shows one image, then it's easy to make a mistake and not realising that you actually selected multiple images, perhaps even all your images. As a result, you could reset edits or add edits to all images while you intended to do that to one image only. That is why Adobe decided to protect you against these mistakes. It must be clear that you really do want the action to apply to all images and only in grid view that is clear.

Johan's explanation for LR's behavior is often given (and maybe even believed by LR's original designers), but LR's current behavior with Loupe view and multiple selected photos is wildly inconsistent with no underlying principle, with many different behaviors depending on the command given:

Yes I understand. I'm a software engineer steeped in Design Patterns  - the basis of the MVC pattern is that any Action (i.e. selection) on a Model (i.e. the individual photo) is reflected on all the Views (i.e. the strip and grid). It is strange that that basic approach is not followed.
