Advanced Keywording using Controlled Vocabulary

New Here ,
Apr 12, 2023 Apr 12, 2023

I'm working on digitizing a set of 100,000 slides from a large collection and am trying to keyword them in a standard way. After a few hours of Googling, I have come across the concept of controlled vocabularies, and was considering using a combination of files from the Getty and the Library of Congress to make one specific for my needs. I was able to find downloads from the Getty in .nt files and from the Library of Congress in .pdfs, but I'm now stuck. What is the best way to combine the files for import to Lightroom Classic? Any suggestions would be helpful.

You'll need them to be a tab-separated text file, and to see the format that LR requires, I recommend doing a Metadata > Export Keywords and reviewing the resulting file in a text editor. You'll see how tabs are used to record the keyword hierarchy, for example. Make some additions in the text editor, and then use Metdaata > Import Keywords to get it into LR.

To get those CV files into LR, you will need to mimic the above format. I don't know what nt files look like, and the pdfs can be in any format. You may find that cutting and pasting is all you need, or that Acrobat can export the keywords to a text file. But the key is to understand the format that LR requires.
