Hi.
I want to buy some quality AI presets to use on landscape photos. But it's a jungle out there, and I am somehow confused what, and where, to look.
I will try to compose my own AI presets in the future, but with only a couple of months experience with LrC - I'll try with others work and learn how to tweak these when needed.
So I am not looking for advices on how to make my own AI presets right now - but only recommendations on where to buy some.
Have a nice weekend 🙂
Just to offer my own experience:
there are many different profiles available (for example, some that mimic various image modes available in a particular camera's menu, primarily to change what the camera JPG looks like). But when you are varying the profile used for processing a Raw, or if this profile is varying what it does, it will take longer and be more complicated to learn what all the Develop adjustments do - to develop your own editing strategies, and understanding. Have you tried the new in LrC V 14.2 Adaptive Color profile? It makes really nice starting point. I know it's not a preset that you asked for.

Hi Ken.
I've only heard of it... in ChatGPT 😉
And I'm so much of a rookie in LcR that I don't know where to look for it 😞
But I'm a quick learner *LOL*

Hi Ken.
Sorry for my late feedback - there have been a birthday to attend to... and a job 🙂
I have used at least an hour, and I simply cannot find what you are pointing me towards :'-(
This is what I see when being in the develop module - and I cannot find 'Profile' there!

It's just above the White Balance dropper, the word Profile and to the right of that is a drop down list of choices.

open the Basic panel, you should see this menu at its top left - in this example photo it is currently processed using a legacy profile but could be changed to one of the Adaptive options instead. Because choice of underlying profile is fundamental, changing between profiles can mean needing to re-consider any and all adjustments done, in the light of the different picture appearance which these will now be resulting in.

Thank you - and @KR Seals too. I looked for profile in same letter size as Basic, Tone curve etc. - and these small letters have totally slipped my eagle eyes... 😉
But I think I'll get back to Profiles when I master the most basic stuff on the left side on the screen - so I'll be back when I graduate from 'Rookie' to 'Rookie A' *LOL*
Have a nice evening/day - and thank you again 🙂

But when you are varying the profile used for processing a Raw, or if this profile is varying what it does, it will take longer and be more complicated to learn what all the Develop adjustments do - to develop your own editing strategies, and understanding. The same is true for relying on Develop presets to achieve different looks: your attention will then be on learning those, but what they are actually doing is maybe mysterious.
What worked for me while learning LrC was to stick with a quite "flat" camera profile - also some fairly neutral and conservative default settings for sharpening and such - and then to explore the myriad pictorial looks possible from there. One then actively makes happen whatever 'enhancement' one wants, rather than reacting passively to different pre-made options. A rapid way to learn. Incidentally one is less likely to fall into formulaic 'recipes': which is more rewarding IMO.
It may seem like more work to carry out, but not really - noting that there is no right or wrong about any of this. If an adaptive profile together with pre-made presets can largely achieve the job at hand, there may be less urgency to learn all the manual adjustments deeply.

I like your view - and the analogy you wrote earlier 🙂
In my younger days I trained and trained to be a better guitarplayer, and it was rewarding when I could play "Stairway to Heaven", "Comfortably Numb" or "Hotel California" - but then it was like "Ok, now what?" - and then I learned to play som other stuff I had on a vinyl - I did'nt really evolve! Some years later, I tried to write my own stuff - and found that playing my own compositions (music/lyrics) was far more satisfying than playing stuff others had written - and which was played all the time on the radio. And playing my own stuff 45 years later, still makes me smile while thinkning "Frank, you wrote this while you were a teen - WOW" 😉 And the sideeffect was the admiration from the girls through the years... *LOL*
So I'll take all you wrote (earlier and now) in - and follow your wise input 🙂
Thanks a lot 😉

Just be aware that the adaptive profiles only work on raw files at this time.
