Automate my workflow

Community Beginner ,
Aug 23, 2023 Aug 23, 2023

Hello, can you please help me

I'm a photographer shooting mostly weddings

I got the same workflow for every client and I got a lot of them

My basic workflow is about four steps

First step importing all the raw photos from two photographers into the same catalog

Second

Generating smart previews to all the photos

Third step

Upload all the catalog files into OneDrive server

Is there any way to do it automatically?

In the Import screen, you can check the box "Create Smart Preview" so that is not a separate step.

Are you actually uploading the catalog .lrcat files to One Drive? What is the point of that? The catalog file will not run properly from a cloud system. It's better to just back it up to another drive and run it from your fastest local drive.

Or, are you uploading the image files to the One Drive? Are you aware that the image files are not part of the catalog in any way.

Another thought and question. Many wedding photographers wind up with thousands of photos from the events, wedding and reception and perhaps more. If you are one of those and do your culling in Lightroom Classic (LrC) consider using Photo Mechanic to copy the images to the computer where you will be processing the images. One benefit of the Photo Mechanic is that it will simultaneously copy cards from as many card readers you can connect to your computer. That process includes designating the file and folder names on the destination drive. Even before all the files have been copied, you can start culling the images in Photo Mechanic. Culling and previewing is FAR, FAR faster in Photo Mechanic. Chances are, you will be able to get thousands of images down to a few hundred that you want to import into LrC, minimizing the time creating the previews and smart previews.

Also, do you have a real reason to be creating smart previews? If not, I would skip it since it is very time consuming on the import.
