Hi,
I am currently trying to batch edit in Lightroom Classic 7.5, and I cannot get it to work. I have tried Auto Sync, Copy and Paste, all the options I know, but to no avail. I have a very big job coming up, where I need to process the photos very quickly, and without batch editing I am stuffed!
Please can someone help!
Dave Dunbar
I first applied Auto Tone to the whole group, which works. ... It worked for the 1st 16 photos. The next 34 photos, Clarity and Dehaze changed, nothing else.
Annie, I think you've tripped over a long-standing bug with applying Auto to batches of photos. After you've applied Auto, subsequent changes to develop settings can sometimes get lost.
There's a simple but annoying workaround: After you've applied Auto, select all the photos and do Library > Previews > Build Standard-Sized Previews.

Hello,
Thank you for your suggestion. Develop module settings does not work for all the photos. Sync settings in Lightroom does nor work for all photos.
Any other options?

Describe exactly what you are doing ("in Develop, AutoSync button enabled, x images selected, drag exposure slider 2 stops to right etc"), and precisely what is it that makes you that batch editing is not working?

Hi,
I am trying to apply a preset to multiple photos. I have a number set up, for various stages of processing, and it will apply the preset to a few photos, but not the whole batch, which in this case is 100+ photos.
I have tried Auto Sync, Sync, Copy and Paste, and the options you have kindly suggested, but to no avail.

And how do you know it isn't working?
Try creating a preset with just one big adjustment, maybe split toning so it's easy to reverse afterwards. Pump up the saturation sliders and save the preset. Now apply it to 100 photos. Do they start changing in the filmstrip? This might be slow, so wait to see. Once it happens, Ctrl Z to undo it.

This may work.
Thank you!

WORKAROUND
In DEVELOP
- Make your changes
- Disable 'Camera Calibration'
- Right click your source image, 'Develop Settings => Copy Settings'
- Copy Settings Dialogue box will now appear, uncheck 'White Balance' (make any other changes needed) then hit 'Copy' button
- You will now be able to right click any other photo(s) and 'Develop Settings => Paste Settings'
This took me forever to workout, I couldn't let it go.
Adobe fix this BS BUG now I have pointed you to the fix.
I have not seen any other fix for this on the net ... So you're all WELCOME!!!!

Hello.
Sadly JustJ, I cannot say thank you just yet, as this didn't work for me.
I did what you suggested, on a batch of 170 photos. The 1st 17 worked, the last 16 worked.
I first applied Auto Tone to the whole group, which works.
I then did exactly as you suggest, but only a few changed.
I then did what was suggested earlier, and applied individual settings (Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Clarity, Dehaze and Vibrance) to 50 photos.
It worked for the 1st 16 photos. The next 34 photos, Clarity and Dehaze changed, nothing else.
I then tried 25 photos, and it looked like this will 'work'.
So, once I have performed the initial sort of a few thousand photos (I'm covering a major local running event on Sunday), I will Import with Auto Tone, then create a number of Collections each containing 25 photos and see how we get on.
I should say that I could do what I have just done again, and something different will happen. It is very unstable, and although I don't have a super duper laptop, it should be able to do what are fundamental processes if anyone needs to process more the 25 photos at a time!
I should also say that I am an experienced Lightroom user, and appear to have exhausted any combinations of options to do batch editing on an otherwise (for me anyway) very good application.
Finally I agree with JustJ that this BS BUG needs to be fixed asap, as myself and many, many other experienced photographers and Lightroom users, aspiring to greater things, will have to look for alternatives.
Editing individual photos is fine for non urgent work, but when you are trying to quickly process major event photos for your client, editing batches of 25 photos is just not helpful. If deadlines aren't met, clients will not continue to use me.
Please help Adobe!

Hi Annie
Let me try again tonight
I'll get back to you with a larger sample
With the bug originally, I could not even get the copy settings dialogue box up, before doing what I mentioned above.

Yes, sorry Annie looking at the photos in the series of 100 it did do the first and last as you mentioned
WORKAROUND (Amended from above)
In DEVELOP
- Make your changes
- Disable 'Camera Calibration'
- Right click your source image, 'Develop Settings => Copy Settings'
- Copy Settings Dialogue box will now appear, uncheck 'White Balance' (make any other changes needed) then hit 'Copy' button
- Select ALL the images (including the one you are copying setting from) then Right click that reference photo and 'Develop Settings => Sync Settings'
- Check or Uncheck your boxes again and hit 'Synchronise'
This work across a sample for 700+ photos and was much faster than 'Build Standard-Sized Previews which also works'

This is the answer!
Just tried it on 170 photos, and it worked. Frustrating to have to do that but it's a minor inconvenience to what I would have had have done! Thank you so much!

Glad you've got it working. Be sure to add your feedback to the bug report linked above. The bug has been present since at least LR 4, but now that Adobe greatly improved Auto in LR 7, more people are tripping over it.
