Black screen when filtered on portrait and use the 1x1 crop

When I filter on portrait aspect photos and set the crop it to 1x1, the screen goes black.  I've tried 3 other defined crops without an issue.  Once the screen is black, other selections within the panel are no longer availalbe and escape doesn't work.  I can go back to the grid (G) or press undo multiple times to get back to a non-black screen.

I'm using a Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1 and LR classic 13.5.1

Is this a bug?

No bug, just logic. A 1:1 crop ratio means the image no longer has a portrait aspect ratio, and so it gets filtered out the moment you apply the crop.
